The story of the six-episode Netflix war drama is set during the 1999 Kargil War and shows the sacrifices of the men working for the Indian Air Force. The series stars Jimmy Shergill, Siddharth, Abhay Verma, Mihir Ahuja, Taaruk Raina, Arnav Bhasin and Adil Hussain in prominent roles. Amid the buzz, here’s how the series ends.
The last episode, that is the sixth episode of the Netflix series, Operation Safed Sagar, kicks off with the Indian Air Force mission at Point 5140 being successful. Meanwhile, it also shows Squadron Leader 'Ajay Ahuja's' (played by Siddarth) death. Following this, it is shown that the Indian Air Force is still fighting dangerous missions with Pakistani forces in occupied positions, with the Indian Army. Wing Commander 'Tony' (played by Jimmy Shergill) and Flying Officer 'Dhali' (played by Abhay Verma) are still flying.
As the missions have become more complicated, the Golden Arrows thus have to come up with new strategies to improve the effectiveness of their attacks on Pakistani troops. 'Tony' finally gets the green signal for a dangerous low-level night bombing run on Point 4065, and the mission becomes a success. Tiger Hill is still the biggest challenge for Indian forces, and its soaring height provides Pakistani soldiers a crucial strategic advantage.
Capturing Tiger Hill was one of the main aims of the Kargil War. The Indian Air Force comes up with a strategy inspired by 'Ajay Ahuja's' earlier idea of using a transport aircraft as a diversion. 'Tony' initially worries about the dangerous weather conditions, but eventually agrees to lead the mission. The diversion successfully confuses the Pakistani radar operators. The air strikes weaken the Pakistani positions, leading Indian Army soldiers to launch their final attack and recapture Tiger Hill.
The capture of Tiger Hill changed the course of the Kargil War. Indian Air Forces were still regaining strategic positions in the Drass and Kargil sectors, putting more pressure on Pakistan. As the situation deteriorated, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appealed for international assistance. However, the US wanted to end the war. At last, Pakistan agreed to withdraw from Kargil. The decision practically ended the 1999 war.
One of the emotional moments of Operation Safed Sagar was 'Ajay Ahuja's' death. After his aircraft is attacked by a surface-to-air missile, he ejects and lands in Pakistani-occupied territory. He is captured by the Pakistani soldiers and is shown being interrogated and tortured. Despite the torture, 'Ajay' doesn’t betray his motherland, India.
'Ajay's' death leaves a deep impact on 'Tony' and 'Dhali'. While 'Tony' survives the Kargil war, he is emotionally affected by 'Ajay's' death. 'Tony' feels guilty because he believes he should have been there to help his fellow officer and continues blaming himself. 'Dhali' refuses to allow anyone to question 'Ajay's' courage or suggest that he did anything wrong.
Months later, 'Tony' meets 'Ajay's' wife, 'Madhavi', and apologises to her. 'Madhavi', who is still grieving the loss of her husband, tells 'Tony' that the harsh things she said earlier came from immense anger and pain. She requests 'Tony' to stop blaming himself and shares that continuing to feel guilty will not honour 'Ajay Ahuja's' memory.
Now, if you are wondering whether there will be Operation Safed Sagar Season 2, then we must tell you that Netflix has not yet renewed it. In fact, after analysing the series, it is pretty evident that it was a complete story showing the sacrifices during the Kargil War. So if Netflix renews Season 2, it might be a completely different story consisting of different heroes who fought for our country.
