Shahid Kapoor is back to do all the magic on the screens. His recent movie alongside Triptii Dimri is named, O'Romeo. The movie's trailer was dropped back in January 2026, and it was on February 13, 2026, when the movie is out on the theatres. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the movie, O'Romeo is said to be based on true events. O'Romeo is reportedly inspired by Hussain Zaidi’s book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai', the same book that inspired Gangubai Kahtiawadi.
Well, in the movie, Shahid plays the role of 'Ustara' while Triptii could be seen as 'Ashraf'. Apart from them, the movie also features Tamannaah Bhatia, Nana Patekar, Aviansh Tiwari and Vikrant Massey, among others. So, let's have a look at how the movie is doing in the theatres and what the audience has to say.
Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj reunited after Haider and Kaminey, so even before the release of the movie, O'Romeo, the expectations of people were running simply high. This time, Shahid Kapoor delivered a masterful performance in a plot that blends passion, crime, obsession, and a love story, set in an underground world.
The movie's first half was a slowburner which was setting the ground for something explosive to take place in the second half. Netizens and viewers who have already watched the movie tagged it as one of Shahid Kapoor's best. He plays the role of 'Ustara', a contract killer who operates deep inside the gangland networks.
Triptii Dimri and other actors grabbed the attention with their acting skills in the movie, O'Romeo, and they are garnering praises from the audience. One user penned, "#ORomeo is a superb film #ShahidKapoor is too good. Aruna Irani and Farida Jalal, wow. Tripti steals the show. Must watch." Another user reviewed the movie by saying, "#ORomeo: Forbidden love meets bloody gang wars in Vishal Bhardwaj's signature style. Shahid & Triptii's chemistry sizzles amid chaos. Gripping, violent & emotional – solid Valentine's watch! 4 #ShahidKapoor #TriptiiDimri."
Talking about the real story that might have inspired the movie, Hussain Ustara was a rare rival of Dawood Ibrahim. He was a don of the underworld who began just like the young boys entering the underworld through street fights and protection rackets. Following this, he became a contract killer, and in the 1980s and 1990s, he was one of the feared names in the underworld. He was born as Hussain Seikh and was later given the name of 'Ustara', a sharp, razor-like blade. Reportedly, this name was not given from any folklore but because of his weapon being a blade.
The reason he refused to submit to Dawood Ibrahim was that he used to operate independently, which even reportedly led him to challenge Dawood, which very few people dared to do back then. He met Sapna Didi eventually, a woman who was born as 'Afshan' and wanted to kill Dawood Ibrahim because his gang was resposible of killing her husband, Mehmood Khan.
It was Hussain who trained Sapna to help her fulfil her oath of killing Dawood. Well, together they plotted many events, where they could take down Dawood. It was in one of the cricket matches in Sharjah, wherein Sapna wanted to assassinate Dawood, but she failed, following which she was brutally killed in 1994.
