NYDP Cop Dies At 31 After Cosmetic Surgery Gone Wrong, Leaves Behind Three Children

A cosmetic surgery went terribly wrong for a 31-year-old NYPD cop, Rebecca De Paula. She died after undergoing a breast implant removal surgery.

An NYPD cop, Rebecca De Paula, passed away after undergoing a breast implant removal surgery in the Dominican Republic. The news of her death has left many in shock, as she was just 31 years old and a mother of three children. Deaths from cosmetic surgeries are suddenly on the rise, as more and more women who are choosing to undergo knife procedures are dealing with complications.

Rebecca De Paula died after suffering complications during breast implant removal

Officer Rebecca died on August 2, 2026, after she developed a severe bacterial infection during the cosmetic procedure at a clinic in Santo Domingo. Rebecca was serving in the New York Police Department for less than two years. Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry confirmed Rebecca's passing in a statement.

He wrote that their hearts are heavy with the loss of her sister, P.O. Rebecca, who passed away while off duty after only 18 months on the job. They prayed for the family in the difficult time, and wrote:

"Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our sister P.O. Rebecca DePaula, who passed away while off duty after only 18 months on the job. We ask all New Yorkers to keep her family, friends and coworkers in your prayers during this difficult time."

Rebecca is survived by her three children and her husband and the family is demanding an investigation into the malpractice and to know the truth about what went wrong during her surgery. For those who don't know, Rebecca was named officer of the month in March 2026 at her Bronx precinct. 

Her mother told in a media interaction that she was rushed to the health care centre after finding out that her condition was serious, but they got the biggest shock after they arrived at the clinic when they learned that she had passed away. Rebecca was known for her excellent work and earned special honours for her outstanding work and dedication towards the community. 

Her NYPD instructor, David Marmol, also reacted to the news and called it horrible. he remembered Rebecca was a beautiful soul, and recalled how he had so many questions. He wrote:

"Horrible news. You were such a beautiful soul. You would say god bless you instead of hi. You had so many good questions. You had such a bright future. You will be missed by your family, friends and colleagues. May you rest in peace."

The family wants to investigate the matter surrounding Rebecca's death and whether medical malpractice or negligence occurred during the procedure. For the unversed, during the breast implant removal surgery, a surgeon removes breast implants from breast augmentation or removes silicone material from implant leaks. However, there are some risks to the procedure. 

So far, there are 93 reports of cosmetic surgery deaths of US citizens in the Dominican Republic between 2009 and 2022. As soon as the news surfaced, netizens rushed to express their horror. One user wrote, "She was my neighbor. I'm devastated with the news. Very sweet person and made me feel very welcomed when I moved in. Rest in peace Rebecca."

A second user penned, "Some people can’t help but leave an imprint on you that you will never forget… She was one of those people… Rest well, Depaula." A third one commented, "To all beautiful women, appearance is probably a need for you to feel attractive but honestly is not important, what matters is what is inside, your feelings, your charisma, the way you interact, etc. at the end, for us men, is more attractive a sexy woman whi knows how to be sensual rather than a woman that shows her ass and butt. women you all, are beautiful the way you are!!!"
