Nick Kyrgios Apologizes To Fans And Family After Failing Drug Test, 'This Has Given Me Wake Up Call'

Nick Kyrgios has been banned from tennis after he failed a cocaine test. The famous tennis player shared his first statement with his fans, and he apologised for letting them down.

Famous tennis player, Nick Kyrgios has been banned from tennis which has left many in shock. For the unversed, the 31-year-old Australian tennis player gave a sample during an ATP 250 event in Mallorca, Spain on June 22, 2026. Recently, the International Tennis Integrity Agency announced his suspension following a failed drug test.

Nick Kyrgios breaks his silence on being banned from playing tennis amid failed drug test

Taking to his Instagram handle, Nick Kyrgios shared an IG story, and bared his heart out. He stated that he wanted to let his fans know that he was banned from playing as he failed the drug test. He took responsibility for his actions and apologised to his fans, family and sponsors and everyone who believed in him. He wrote:

"I wanted you to hear this from me first. I recently failed a drug test in Mallorca after testing positive for cocaine. I made a huge mistake and I take full responsibility for it.
I'm sorry to my fans, my family, my sponsors and everyone close to me. Above all, I'm sorry to the kids who follow me. I know the example this sets and I'm deeply disappointed in myself."

Nick further added that he is not making excuses but he wanted to share his side of the story and stated that the years of injuries have taken a huge toll on him physically and mentally. He added that his body has not been able to do what his mind expects him to do. Nick claimed that it was hard for him to come to terms with the thought of his career coming to an end. He stated:

"My body hasn't been able to do what my mind expects it to do, and coming to terms with being near the end of my career has been harder than lever imagined.
I've always said I didn't choose tennis - tennis chose me. But letting go of something that has been my whole life is one of the hardest things I've ever had to face. At times I've felt helpless and alone."

Nick added that it is a wake-up call for him, and he is going to step away from social media and public life for the next 28 days. He would be focusing on getting his life back to track. He urged people to respect his privacy and his family's privacy in these stressful times. He wrote:

"None of that excuses what I did. However, the good news is that this has given me a wake up call. For the next 28 days. I'll be stepping away from social media and public life while I focus on getting myself right. I'd ask that people respect my privacy during that time, and most importantly the privacy of my family. I'm sorry. I'll do the work and come back better."

It is worth adding that Nick's suspension means that the world No. 13, won't be competiing in coacthing or attending Grand Slam tournaments and events. Nick has been recovering from his persistent knee and wrist problems nad had only made four singles appearances.

As soon as Nick shared his response, netizens expressed their thoughts on the matter. One user wrote on Reddit wrote, "Don't worry Nick no kid looks up to you." Another user pointed, "Funny how hard he was on Iga and Jannik for testing positive but now he wants sympathy when it happened to him. He chose to do coke, unlike the two he was harrassing online for months, who failed tests with miniscule amounts of banned substances in their blood from contamination. Give me a break."
