NHL Prospect, Austin Roest talked about his girlfriend's heartbreaking cancer diagnosis. He launched a fundraiser to help pay for her treatment.

While Austin Roest is an NHL prospect, his girlfriend, Milara Okabe, is a figure skater. After revealing his girlfriend's diagnosis, he asked for help in raising funds for her treatment.
The Nashville Predators' 2023 sixth-round draft pick took to his Instagram handle and penned a note for his girlfriend, Okabe. He shared a photo with her from the hospital as they both were lying on the hospital bed. Along with it, he bared his heart out about the toughest time of his life.
Austin shared that he had no idea what he should say, but no one deserves to go through it. He stated that he is sure that she would beat the cancer. For the unversed, Okabe had been diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma, which is a rare form of cancer that lives in an organ gland. He wrote:
"Milly, I don’t even know what to say. I am so sorry this is happening to you. No one deserves to go through this. That being said, I have no doubt in my mind you will beat cancer. You are the strongest person I know and I know you will overcome everything that comes your way over the next year. I love you so much, and I will be right there with you through all of this."
Austin also shared a link to GoFundMe page to support his girlfriend and her family as she battles cancer. The page has been set up by Okabe's friend and it states that any funds raised would go towards her treatment. The GoFundMe page revealed that Okabe has been a kind, strong and selfless person who holds an important place in everyone's heart.
The page further stated that skating has been a huge part of Milara's life as she has spent years as a high-level skater. Currently, she has been teacher how to skate to kids. The page read:
"Milara's is so much more than her diagnosis. She is a kind, strong and selfless person who means so much to everyone around her. Skating has always been a huge part of Milara's life. After spending years as a high-level skater herself, she now loves being able to share that passion by teaching kids how to skate. Outside of the rink, she is constantly with the people she loves the most – her friends and family, as well as simply having the most fun in everything she does."
The GoFundMe page revealed that her family has been doing everything to get her healthy and hearty. But along with the emotional weight of her diagnosis, they are also dealing with the travel and accomodation costs, plus medication, and fertility preservation which has raised unexpected expenses.
As soon as Austin's post was shared, fans showered his girlfriend with love and well-wishes. One user wrote, "Sending love and prayers. Cancer has taken too many from my family. Always here if you need anything."
Another one commented, "Praying for Milly and asking God to surround her with strength, comfort, and healing. May He guide her doctors, ease her fears, and give her, Austin and her family hope and peace through every step of this journey."
For the unversed, Austin and Milara has been dating each since 2023. The couple often shared happy photos of themselves on Instagram.
