Bollywood's veteran actress, Neena Gupta, revealed that getting married for the second time at the age of 49 was more out of need and not love.
Neena Gupta is known for her bold, unfiltered take on living on her own terms and not caring what the world thinks. Her second innings in life gave her a lot of fame and money. Since then, she has been enjoying every moment of her stardom. However, not many know that Neena Gupta got married at the age of 49. She talked for the first time about her second marriage.
Recently, Neena Gupta appeared on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast, wherein she talked about her life and life choices. She also talked about her second marriage with Delhi-based chartered accountant, Vivek Mehra, in 2008 at the age of 49. When Shubhankar asked if she got married late in her late 40s as she was in love, Neena laughed and said it was the most difficult question. She added that she doesn't understand love now. She knows only how to love a child, not any other love. When Shubhankar questioned why she got married. Neena Gupta said:
"Jarrurat thi, bahut. Agar humko samaj mein rehna hai toh samaj ki kuch niyamo ka palan karna padta hai, yeh mai apni galtiyo se seekhi. Ya toh ap island par raho, ya toh ap jaise marji raho. Yaha pe kya hai na jo mai sochti hoon waisa baki log nahi sochte na Mai kahi jati hoon toh mujhe ajeeb se drishti se dekha jata hai. Toh mai comfortable feel nahi karti. Shaadi karlo sab theek ho jata hai. It's very sad thing but it's true."
Neena Gupta stated that it is important to get married, but it doesn't mean you marry anyone. But if you stay single as a woman, it becomes extremely difficult. For the unversed, Neena Gupta got married to Vivek Mehra in a private ceremony in the United States. She met him on a flight in the mid-2000s. According to reports, the two are in a long-distance marriage, as Vivek Mehra lives in Delhi and Neena Gupta works in Mumbai.
Neena Gupta further revealed that when her daughter, Masaba, was in a live-in relationship, she quickly asked her to get married due to the societal pressure and the issues she faced as a single woman. However, the time has changed, and girls are different now. She added that she has stopped giving advice on marriage.
Neena Gupta has been a part of the film industry since the 1980s. While she has seen huge success, she has also seen tough times, when she didn't get her due credit. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Neena recalled an uncomfortable moment she witnessed during her career's early days. She shared that a director gave her maa-bhen ki gaaliya in front of everyone.
For those who don't know, Neena Gupta is a three-time National Award Winner. Earlier, she had won awards for her role in Bazar Sitaram and Woh Chokri. Talking about her wins, Neena shared that it was a big surprise for her. She called the film extremely special.
