Famous Hollywood actress, Julia Roberts opened up about her interest in Hinduism. She once revealed that a photo of Neem Karoli Baba was the one that sparked her love for Hinduism. Julia talked about the same while talking about her spritual inclination and revealed that she had seen a photo of Neem Karoli Baba and felt an instant connection.
However, back in the time she had known nothing about the Hindu saint, but she had a feeling of familarity without meeting or reasearching about him. Julia shared that he had died long before she found his photo, when she was asked if she got the chance to meet him.
Julia was born to Baptist and Catholic parents, but she followed Hinduism after feeling a strong inclination towards the religion. She chose to practice it in the hope of having a peaceful incarnation in the next life. She regularly visits the temple to chant, pray and celebrate Indian festivals.
Julia once talked about her decision to follow Hinduism. She shared that she had no intention to demean any other religion just because she choses Hinduism, and she won't be comparing them. She said:
"I have no intention of demeaning any other religion simply because of my fondness for Hinduism. I don't believe in comparing religions or human beings. A comparison is a very mean thing to do. I have received real spiritual satisfaction through Hinduism."
Julia's film production company is called Red Om Film, and is named after the Hindu Symbol 'Om' which is a sacred sound and is treated as the ultimate truth of the Universe. Not only this, but the reports were rife that Julia was trying to adopt a child from India. Talking about her liking for Hinduism, Julia said:
"Ever since I developed my liking and fondness for Hinduism, I have been attracted and deeply fascinated by many facets of the multi-dimensional Hinduism… spirituality in it transcends many barriers of mere religion."
Neem Karoli Baba was a spiritual leader of Indian history who passed away in 1973, but his devotees still remember him for his preachings. At Kainchi Dham, his ashram continues to help young explorers, sadhaks, and new practitioners find their way to spirituality.
The actress has taken a very subtle approach. She has rarely discussed her views in public, preferring to think things through before speaking. Whenever Julia is in India, she makes sure to visit temples and not just investigate or explore the religion but she actually practices it.
Talking about Neem Karoli Baba, at the age of 11, he lost his mother, and that's when someone told him that she had gone to Lord Ram. The boy then started following and learning more Lord Ram. He became obsessed with him and started reaching out to him. He left home and travelled across India and performed penance. Despite gaining spritual knowledge, Neem Karoli Baba stayed humble and helped people who reached out to him.
