Throwback to a time when Navya Naveli Nanda had hoarded her 'nani, Jaya Bachchan's wardrobe and revamped one of her heritage AKSK sarees for Isha Ambani's wedding!
Granddaughters tend to share a bond like no other with their grandmothers. Their bond is precious, superior to everything, and even more than a mommy-daughter relationship. A similar kind of relationship exists between veteran actress, Jaya Bachchan and her granddaughter, Navya Naveli Nanda. Navya, who is the daughter of Shweta Bachchan, simply dotes on her loving nani to the extent that she has free access to almost everything belonging to her, including her wardrobe and outfits. Proof of the same was found when in 2018, Navya borrowed one of Jaya’s heritage sarees and revamped it to suit her style so that she could wear it at Isha Ambani’s wedding.
For the grand heiress, Isha Ambani’s wedding in 2018, nearly all of Bollywood’s who’s-who were invited to be a part of the lavish celebrations, and the Bachchans were no exception. Naturally, the family put their best foot forward in fashion as they accepted the wedding invitation. However, the centre of attraction from the pictures of all the family members decked up in the most exquisite ensembles was none other than Navya Naveli Nanda. She looked splendid in a golden heritage saree, originally belonging to her grandmother, Jaya Bachchan. In a post shared by the outfit designers, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, they mentioned how Navya followed her tradition grandly and revamped the saree. In their words:
“Reviving Tradition! @navyananda wears her grandmother, Jaya Bachchan's heritage sari, which has been edged with gota beaded borders by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. Paired with their zardozi choli.”

Jaya Bachchan seems to relive her youthful days when she sees her darling granddaughter, Navya grow up right before her eyes. Therefore, she ensures to take part in every little happening of Navya’s life, and the duo shares a BFF bond like no other. Proof of the same was found when Navya took to her IG handle and dropped a series of pictures from her trip to Bhopal. While most of it captured some exciting moments during the visit, one of them showed Navya getting a nice haircut from none other than her granny, Jaya Bachchan.
Jaya Bachchan is known to be quite outspoken and has a spear-headed point of view on most occasions, which often is not taken in the good books of her audience. For instance, Jaya made it to the headlines when, during her granddaughter’s podcast show, What The Hell Navya, she revealed herself to be broad-minded and found it acceptable if Navya was to have a child out of wedlock in future. In her words:
“I'm looking at it very clinically. Since there's a lack of that emotion, the romance today, I think you should marry your best friend. You should have a good friend, you should discuss and say, ‘Maybe I'd like to have a child with you because I like you, I think you're nice, so let's get married because that's what society's saying'. I have no problem if you have a child without a marriage also, I really don't have a problem.”

There are no second thoughts about the unique kind of relationship Jaya Bachchan shares with her granddaughter, Navya. Their bonding is much more liberal than what Jaya would share with her daughter and Navya’s mom, Shweta Bachchan. And so, even Shweta feels that her daughter has much more in common with her grandmom, Jaya, than herself. Speaking about the same in an interview, she mentioned how both of them have an equal tendency to have conviction and are fearless about voicing them upfront in public. In her words:
“I think Navya has a lot of my mother in her. She has a lot of conviction, and it’s not easy to shake that. She’s passionate about a lot of causes, and is vocal about them. She’s comfortable about coming on stage and talking about things she believes in than someone like me; I’m very shy, and not good at all this.”
