Not shying away from the details, Wynonna revealed that the last years with her mother were 'awful', as she was always talking about dying. The singer also revealed how her mother even told her grandson that she wanted to die.
Wynonna Judd is no longer afraid to be candid about her mother, Naomi Judd, and her mental health struggles. The singer recently appeared on All There Is with Anderson Cooper and opened up about her mother's suicide. For those who are not aware, Naomi took her own life in 2022. However, when asked if Wynonna was surprised when it happened, the singer immediately denied it.
She went on to explain that her mother would talk about dying a lot. Wynonna Judd revealed that Naomi Judd even told her grandson that she wanted to jump off a bridge. She recalled that her mother would talk about it with her and her sister Ashley Judd too. The singer was quoted as saying:
"She talked about it a lot. Even to her grandson who's a deputy, about jumping off a bridge. She talked about it so much with me. I don't know who else besides Ashley [Judd], but she talked about it a lot."
In the same conversation, Wynonna Judd recalled she would tell her mother that she had "too much to live for." However, Naomi Judd's mental health reportedly was not in a state that she could see it. Wynonna revealed that her mother would call her out of nowhere and tell her that she didn't want to be there. Reflecting on the awful patch, Wynonna said:
"She was always watching those shows on TV about stuff like that. I just remember thinking, 'What is she doing? I don't understand.' She'd call me and say, 'I don't want to be here anymore.' And I'd go over and spend the night with her. It was awful."
Wynonna revealed that Naomi Judd struggled till the end of her life. For those who are not familiar with the matter, Naomi Judd took her own life in 2022. The singer was 76 years old at the time of her death. Following her suicide, Wynonna announced her death in an emotional statement. She called the passing of her mother a tragedy and said:
"Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory."
In September 2026, Wynonna Judd opened up about her relationship with her mother. She revealed that there was a tremendous amount of love between her and Naomi Judd. However, there was a lot of drama as well. She recalled that her mother had an illness and she had to keep it a secret from everyone. Wynonna shared that keeping her mother's severe depression hidden from the public for years devastated her.
Previously, in a September 30, 2026 interview with PEOPLE, Wynonna Judd opened up about her rift with her sister, Ashley Judd. She said she and the actress are not currently "connected." Wynonna also said Ashley hasn't heard her deeply personal album, The Hard Truth, yet. Wynonna explained that they were taking a break from each other but would absolutely reconnect in the future.
