Mulayam Singh Yadav is a well-known Indian politician and the founder of the Samajwadi Party. The politician has often made headlines in his political career. However, unfortunately, he is currently making headlines for an unfortunate cause. It was on the morning of May 13, 2026, that the news made headlines that the younger son of the well-acclaimed politician had passed away. Amid that, let's take a look at what happened to him.

Mulayam Singh Yadav's younger son, Prateek Yadav, passed away at the age of 38

According to reports, Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav's half-brother and the younger son of Samajwadi Party patriarch, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Prateek Yadav, has passed away on the morning of May 13, 2026. Prateek died at the age of 38 in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Wednesday. The news came as a shock to the country. Civil Hospital director, Dr GP Gupta, confirmed Prateek's death and said information was received at around 5 am that he was unwell, following which a team of doctors rushed to his residence.

Civil Hospital director, Dr GP Gupta, revealed that when the doctor reached Prateek Yadav's residence, his condition was critical. He was thereafter brought to the hospital. However, despite all medical efforts from their team, he was declared dead at 5:55 a.m. He was quoted as saying:

"When the doctors reached there, his condition appeared critical. He was brought to the hospital, and despite all efforts by the medical team, he was declared dead at 5:55 a.m."

Mulayam Singh Yadav's son, Prateek Yadav's cause of death

In the same conversation, Civil Hospital director, Dr GP Gupta, revealed that Prateek Yadav was brought to Civil Hospital at around 5:30 am. However, the cause of death is yet to be revealed. According to Gupta, the exact cause of death would only be clear after a postmortem examination. His sudden demise has sent shockwaves through political and social circles in Uttar Pradesh.

Additionally, a report by Lokmat Times has suggested that a panel of doctors at the King George Medical University (KGMU) will also perform a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death. KGMU has also formed a two-member team comprising specialist-level doctors, Dr Mausami and Dr Shivli. They have been assigned specifically to address any doubts or concerns that may arise during the initial stages of the examination. According to reports, the procedure is expected to start around 10 a.m.

Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath reacts to Prateek Yadav's death

Political leaders, business associates and supporters expressed condolences to the Yadav family following the news of his death. Hours after Prateek Yadav's death, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, expressed deep grief over the untimely demise of Mulayam Singh Yadav's younger son. Adityanath called the loss 'deeply tragic.' The CM conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and peace during this difficult time. In a heartfelt post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath penned:

"The sudden demise of Shri Prateek Yadav -- son of the late 'Padma Vibhushan' and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav, and husband of Smt. Aparna Yadav, Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women's Commission, is deeply tragic. My humble tribute. My heartfelt condolences are with the bereaved family members. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and bestow upon the grieving family the strength to bear this immense sorrow. Om Shanti."
