Throwback to the time when Mohanlal spoke about his final words to his mother after he won a prestigious award.
Mohanlal is one of the prominent names in the Malayalam film industry, who has been ruling the silver screen for many decades now. Not just in regional cinema, Mohanlal enjoys global fame, and behind his success was his mother, Santhakumari Amma. However, on December 30, 2025, she bid adieu to the world at the age of 90.
She has been undergoing treatment after a stroke and passed away at the actor’s residence in Elamakkara, Kochi. It was in 2007 when Mohanlal lost his father, Viswanathan Nair, a former Law Secretary. It was his mother who stood by him during his highs and lows, and now with her passing, the actor is devastated.
Mohanlal’s recent comment about his mother surfaced amid her death. The actor was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to cinema in September 2025. And like any proud son, he straightaway went to his mother to show his achievement. Speaking about the same, Later, at a press conference in Kochi, Mohanlal said:
“I went to my mother first. That’s how it should be, isn’t it? She was fortunate to witness this achievement, and I was fortunate to share it with her. She hasn’t been well, but she understands everything. Speaking is difficult for her now, yet I understand her words. She blessed me, and that blessing stays with me.”
According to reports, Santhakumari Amma had been undergoing treatment for age-related issues after suffering a stroke. Santhakumari’s health had deteriorated gradually due to age-related complications, and her condition required constant medical attention. Despite Mohanlal’s busy schedule, he never missed a chance to spend his time with his mother.
On several occasions, through public platforms and blogs, he had spoken about the profound influence she had on both his cinematic journey and personal life. In an early interview, Mohanlal spoke about his ailing mother and revealed that earlier she used to talk a lot, but ever since she was bedridden, she couldn’t speak much.
In the same interaction, Mohanlal revealed that just as once she fed him, he occasionally feeds her, and could see how life came as a full circle. Revealing how he understands his mother’s words through her eyes, the actor stated:
“Sometimes she touches me lightly or nods her head. I have learned to understand a language even in those gestures. Just as my mother once fed me, I now feed her. She lies there watching my wife Suchitra and me eat. They say ‘to touch is to be present’. Through that touch, my mother seems to say many things without words. When I sit beside her like that, I feel a cycle of life being completed. I sense it, experience it. In that moment, I see myself, and I see human life itself.”
