Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleMichael Douglas was called a ladies' man because he was known for his womanizing. However, when he fell in love with Catherine Zeta-Jones, things changed. She used smart tactics to keep Michael by her side, as she wanted him to be her forever one, and the feelings were mutual.
Michael Douglas talked about how he was once involved in five flings at a time and had countless affairs. But meeting Catherine Zeta-Jones changed the way he lived his life. He met Catherine in 1998. However, he worried that their 25-year age gap could complicate starting their romance. However, Catherine revealed in an interview that she preferred dating older men.
The couple met at the Deauville Film Festival. They spent the night talking and, in jest, Michael blurted that he would be the father of Catherine's children. And it was a statement which turned out to be true. However, getting through Catherine wasn't easy, as she made sure he remained faithful to her.
Her first trick was to take things slow with Michael. She made sure they didn't sleep together after their dates. Michael revealed that whenever he offered to take her home, she made an excuse and said a family member or friend was there to give her a lift.
At first, Michael was totally smitten, didn't notice the pattern, and later realized she wanted to take it slow with him. Michael made sure he could spend time with her, and he coordinated his schedules with her. He called it the longest courtship he had ever been in. He said:
"I looked forward to seeing her whenever I could. It wasn't that often, but I drank up every moment. What started as the two of us getting to know each other slowly turned into the longest courtship I had ever undertaken! I had always been inclined to slip right into physical intimacy, but with Catherine, I was willing to take whatever time we both needed."
Michael revealed that Catherine told him that she didn't want him to become just another ex-girlfriend on his list and just another ex-boyfriend on hers. Michael revealed that he was excited to spend life with Catherine. However, he also confessed to sleeping with five different women at the time he was with Catherine.
But things changed after nine months when he invited Catherine to stay at his holiday home. He even invited his friend Pat Riley and his wife to stay with them. During the visit, the pair slept together for the first time and agreed to make things official. However, Catherine made sure he stayed loyal to her and dated only her.
Michael revealed that he made five quick calls to five different women, whom he was having affairs with after his first marriage. He added that he didn't commit to any of them. He said:
"Just after my marriage, I had been seeing five other women. They knew I was recently separated and in the process of getting a divorce. I made sure they all lived in different cities, which felt like a respectful way to be nonmonogamous. None of them asked for a commitment or even asked what else I was up to. I am sure they were seeing other people, too. That day, I called each one to say I'd met somebody and could no longer continue seeing them. They all took it well."
