Ben Turland has become everyone's favourite ever with his appearance in 'Heartbreak High'. So, let's take a quick look at his life.
Netflix is back with Season 3 of the Australian comedy-drama series, Heartbreak High. Helmed by Hannah Carroll Chapman, the series follows the students and teachers of 'Hartley High' as they navigate racial tensions in Australia, high school romances, and all sorts of teen angst. The show is a soft reboot of the 1994 series first screened on Network Ten. For the unversed, Heartbreak High premiered on Netflix on 14 September 2022. The following month, it was renewed for a second season, which premiered on 11 April 2024.
And now Netflix has released the third season on March 25, 2026. So, now that the 'Hartley High' kids are graduating, it doesn't mean that there won't be any new heartthrobs in the show. While 'Liam' is not a graduate of the series, he has surely graduated to the position of the 'new crush' in the show. So, as we find ourselves mesmerised, let us take a look at who the actor behind our beloved role is.

'Amerie' and her friends are not keeping their heads in the books this season of Heartbreak High. While most of the school was stuck with the same boring babysitting jobs in high school, 'Harper' seems to have landed herself a casual job at the local carnival. However, it turns into more than just a gig when she crosses paths with 'Liam', a flirty, tatted-up carnival owner's son. He finds himself enchanted with 'Amiere' the second he sees her when she visits 'Harper', even offering to cover the latter's stall. As it turns out, our beloved crush is not just eye candy but also super smooth with his words. When he's introduced to 'Amerie', he responds:
"Amerie? I thought it was going to be 'Beautiful'."
'Liam' is hot and tatted up, so despite this crack, the girls are intrigued, and so are fans after a very eye-gobbling shirtless scene in Episode 4. "Lock up your daughters", quips 'Amerie', and before long, 'Liam' is drawn into 'Amerie' and 'Harper's' orbit when they play a prank on a carnival ride that goes horribly wrong. So, if you've also found yourself smitten by the character, let us introduce you to the actor behind the role.
Ben Turland, born Benjamin Turland, is the actor behind the viewer's crush, 'Liam'. However, this isn't his first dance with fame; he's also the low-key king of Australian dance competitions and soap operas. The 27-year-old actor hails from Australia and got his first stint as a dancer with a group called Lil' Banditz Krew, first appearing on our small screens in 2012 on Young Talent Time. He then became a backup dancer for a contestant on the seventh season of The Voice, before making it all the way to the semi-finals on Australia's Got Talent in 2020.
Ben Turland kept working as a dancer on The X Factor Australia and The Voice Australia while pursuing acting on the side. In 2014, he nabbed his first acting role on Love Child, spending a few years on the Australian soap before jumping to Home and Away, where he played foster kid, 'Jordan Walsh'. In a conversation with Radio Times, he reflected on his journey. He revealed that he has no regrets about his dancing years, despite having found his passion in acting. He was quoted as saying:
"I realised if you work your hardest, maybe it’s where you’re not meant to be. So it was after that I started really pursuing acting because I thought maybe you’re not going to go down the path you think you’re going down. I wasn’t going to school much; I was dancing three to four days a week, full-time. That was great for me, I was travelling the world — it was awesome."
Three years later, Ben Turland appeared as 'Hendrix Greyson' on Neighbours. The role became a massive milestone in his career, opening several other doors for him. He was also part of a progressive moment for Australian television: Georgie Stone, the first trans person to appear on Australian TV, had an off-screen role. In a conversation with Celebrity Whisperer, he was quoted as saying:
"I used to watch Neighbours after school, and now I’m in scenes with Karl and Susan! I never even thought I’d be an actor. I get messages from my friends telling me they’re watching me on TV and that it's weird! I go to gay bars all the time, especially when I’m doing a musical. Sometimes I prefer going to gay bars because there are no big-shot guys or people starting fights. It’s just love and good energy — and everyone knows how to party!"
While fans have been enchanted by 'Liam', they are also extremely curious about the actor's personal life, including whether Ben Turland has a special someone. Well, the actor has shared a series of photos with co-star, Asher Yasbincek, who plays 'Harper' on Heartbreak High. However, as far as we know, the heartthrob is very much single or wisely keeping his personal life under wraps.
