Sergio Garca recently grabbed attention at the Masters tournament after he had an outburst following a poor tee shot.
Sergio García has once again found himself in the news. And this time it is for all the wrong reasons. He has received criticism after the former Masters Champion had a series of outbursts on the golf course. After hitting a poor tee shot, Sergio was visibly upset with himself and smashed his clubs. In turn, he received warnings and added another episode in his series of temper surges between the games. While he deals with the chaos his anger causes, let's learn more about his wife, Angela Akins García.
Angela Akins Garcia rose to fame in the sports world long before she married Sergio García. She used to work as a reporter and on-air personality for the Golf Channel. Angel was especially responsible for covering sporting tournaments and interviewing players. Apart from reporting, she hosted shows for Fox Sports Southwest shows including Fox Football Friday and Access Golf. Gradually, Angela became renowned for her sharp insights and confident reporting on-air.
Similar to her husband, Angela also has a history with sports. Firstly, she comes from a sports background. Her father, Marty Akins, was a quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. At the same time, she is connected to NFL legend Drew Brees. Secondly, she used to play golf while a student at the University of Texas. In particular, she had an impressively low handicap. Now, Angela balances her married life with Sergio, along with her work and philanthropy through the Angela Garcia Foundation. The couple's Foundation focuses on supporting young golfers, and she also has an anti-bullying initiative, UGLI Foundation.
According to PGA Tour reports, Angela and Sergio met in 2015 at the Shell Houston Open, where Angela served as a reporter. Soon, their regular conversations turned into a courtship. Reportedly, Sergio had to work hard for months to convince Angela to go on a date with him. Eventually, their relationship turned serious, and the former golf star made a romantic proposal on New Year's Eve in 2017.
He especially chose her family's ranch in Texas for the special moment, and following her "yes," they got married in July 2017. In fact, it was a double celebration for the Master's victor, too, where he wore his Green Jacket for their first dance. Now, the couple is parents to two children, Azalea and Enzo. Meanwhile, the family of hours lives in Austin, Texas.
Sergio Garcia has become a subject of debate in Golf after he again displayed his temperament on the golf course. The incident occurred during the final round, when he became frustrated after a poor tee shot on the second hole. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, immediately after that shot, he slammed his Club into the turn. At the same time, he struck a water cooler stand, which snapped his driver's. Needless to say, his on-course outbursts brought him an official code-of-conduct warning from Tournament officials.
However, things did not end there. Fans were further confused when Sergio carried the golf bag of a fellow Spaniard, Jon Rahm. On the other hand, Rahm's caddie managed the bunker duties. Despite the weird move, the former Masters champion was not allowed a replacement. So, he had to end the round with just 13 clubs. For those unaware, it is not the first time Sergio's anger has made news, as he has a history of similar incidents. Previously, he was disqualified from the 2019 Saudi International due to similar outbursts. Still, the recent incident has brought the debate around his on-course behavior into the spotlight.
