Sanju Samson is one of the most renowned Indian cricketers. He began his cricketing career at an early age in Delhi before moving to Kerala. Notably, he was a member and captain of the U-13 cricket team of Kerala in 2007. He also went on to captain the team in U-16 and U-19 levels. Sanju's domestic career was also highly successful. For instance, it was his double-century in the 2008-09 Vijay Merchant Trophy which helped clear the path for his Kerala team in the 2009-10 Ranji Trophy.
In 2022, captaining the India A squad in a 3-ODI series against the New Zealand A cricket team, Saju whitewashed his opponents and became the series' highest run-getter. Indian cricketer, Sanju Samson, was born on November 11, 1994, in a Malayali Christian family in Pulluvila, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. His parents are Samson Vishwanath and Lijy Vishwanath. For the unversed, Samson Vishwanath is a former Delhi Police constable. Additionally, he is also a retired footballer who, during his prime, represented Delhi in the Santosh Trophy.
Coming to Sanju's mother, Lijy Vishwanath, she is known to be a homemaker. Based on Sanju Samson’s Instagram posts, her birthday is on May 10, though her exact birth year is unknown. Not much information is available about her beyond this, as she usually maintains a low profile and stays out of the spotlight.
Sanju Samson's father, Samson Vishwanath, is a man known for his dedication towards his family and being a huge support in his son's cricket journey. If reports are believed to be true, he used to be a police constable in Delhi. He had worked hard at this job for several years. On top of being a cop, not many might be aware, but Samson Vishwanath was also a really talented footballer. To mention, he has represented Delhi in one of the biggest tournaments for Indian football – the Santosh Trophy.
It is worth noting that to support Sanju's budding cricketing career, Samson Vishwanath made a significant sacrifice by voluntarily retiring from the Delhi Police and moving his family to Kerala. Two years before the move, Samson had already sent his son to his hometown due to the limited opportunities in Delhi.
At present, Samson seems to be enjoying his retired life, spending quality time with his family and also cheering on Saju from the sidelines. Furthermore, on February 2, 2023, Sanju showed how much he appreciates his father on his birthday by posting a picture with him with the caption, “Happy birthday to The Real Samson.”
Fans who follow Sanju Samson closely might be aware that he has an elder brother named Saly Samson. Well, just like Sanju, Saly too is a cricketer. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Saly has scored 38 runs in the 6 List-A matches that he has played. At the time, he was playing for the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), featuring for KCA Royals, the Kerala Cricket Team, and the A.G's Office Recreation Club.
While he had also represented Kerala in junior cricket, Saly's career came to a standstill owing to injuries. In 2021, before Saly made his comeback, Saju penned a long post in tribute to his brother. His post can be read as:
“A great salute to your passion, dedication and love for this game BHAIJAAAN. You fought very hard for 4 long years with your injuries and surgeries to get back on the ground and do what you love the most in this world. Wishing you the best going forward and I hope you keep playing this beautiful game for as long as you wish for !!!”
At present, he seems to be working in the Accountant General's (AG) office. In his personal life, Saly is married and has a beautiful daughter named Hazel Saly Samson.
