Now, in a shocking turn of events, a private team of forensic scientists are claiming that the Nirvana frontman may have been mur**red. The Daily Mail reported that the team of forensic scientists came to the conclusion after re-examining Kurt Cobain's autopsy report as well as the crime scene materials. Now, with the renewed interest in Kurt's death, many have also started to wonder about his personal life, especially his daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, whom the Nirvana legend shared with his wife, Courtney Love.
With both her parents, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, having belonged to the creative field, it is not surprising that she, too, inherited their creativity. A quick look at her Instagram reveals that she is into art, as she often posts pictures of her intricate sketches and colourful paintings. According to reports, Frances attended a 2018 event at Other Peoples Children alongside her mother, which is a space that features the art and designs by up-and-coming artists. Notably, one of Frances' own paintings was on display in the event.
Following Kurt Cobain's unexpected and tragic passing, his wife, Courtney Love, had control over the rights to his likeness, name, and appearance. However, come 2010, after her debts had piled up, Courtney was forced to give up on those rights, which, as one might already guess, were extremely valuable. According to a Pitchfork report, in exchange for giving up the rights, Courtney received a whopping USD 2.75 million loan from her daughter, Frances, through her trust fund. If a report by Celebrity Net Worth is to be believed, ever since Frances turned an adult at 18, she has consistently earned an estimated USD 100,000 from those rights, investment dividends, and royalties.
Although USD 100,000 a month would be more than enough for most people to live on, that was not the case for Frances in her 20s. She has confessed that the reason she used to overspend, almost twice her monthly allowance, was owing to her struggles with substance abuse in addition to her lavish lifestyle. During an interview in 2019, Frances stated:
“The one way that I was shown how to live was to live in excess, like, live beyond your means.”
It seems that despite her father, Kurt Cobain's band, Nirvana, being a favourite with the masses, she herself is not a huge fan of their music. During a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, she said that, “I don't really like Nirvana that much,” although she does respect her father's work and ambition. She added that she loves only one song, Dumb, from Nirvana's 1993 album, In Utero. Claiming that the song brings tears to her eyes every time she hears it, Frances told the publication:
"It's a stripped-down version of Kurt's perception of himself — of himself on dr*gs, off dr*gs, feeling inadequate to be titled the voice of a generation.”
For those unaware, Frances was previously married to guitarist, Isaiah Silva. The duo tied the knot in June 2014, but their marriage did not last long. In March 2016, news outlets reported that Frances had already filed for divorce from Isaiah. Their divorce was also a rather complicated affair as they both struggled to divide their assets, including the inheritance Frances received from her late father, Kurt Cobain. According to reports, Frances had to give up the guitar Kurt used during his iconic MTV Unplugged performance, which is allegedly worth millions today.
Frances Bean Cobain gave love a second chance when she started dating renowned skateboarder and millionaire entrepreneur, Tony Hawk's son, Riley Hawk. Like his father, Riley is a professional skateboarder. Frances made her relationship with Riley Instagram official in January 2022, and on October 7, 2023, the pair tied the knot in Los Angeles. Their wedding ceremony was officiated by Frances' grandfather and R.E.M. frontman, Michael Stipe, according to a marriage certificate obtained by TMZ at the time.
