Notably, the duo tied the knot in 2020 and kept the relationship away from the limelight.
The latest development has now brought Chadwick’s brothers, Kevin and Derrick, into the spotlight. Keep reading to know more about them!
Kevin Boseman and Derrick Boseman are the older brothers of the late actor Chadwick Boseman. While they’ve stayed largely out of Hollywood, both have built careers centered on service, the arts, and community, and in 2025-2026 they came together to formalise that work.
Kevin Boseman is a Brooklyn-based performing artist with more than three decades in dance, theatre, and storytelling. He was a featured soloist with Martha Graham Dance Company and a principal dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and also performed with Ailey II.
Kevin’s stage credits span Broadway and touring productions including The Lion King, The Color Purple, Shrek the Musical, A Chorus Line, Ragtime, and the Broadway revival of Equus. Beyond theatre, Kevin has performed in dance-for-a-cause events. He headlined Dance Against Cancer Outside at Lincoln Center, performing a piece choreographed to This Is Me from The Greatest Showman.
He’s also spoken publicly about being a cancer survivor, entering remission two months after Chadwick died in 2020, and has used performance as a tribute - including dancing in honor of his brother. On the other hand, Derrick Boseman is a longtime Tennessee resident with more than 30 years in ministry, mentorship, and community leadership. His work has focused on youth development, violence prevention, family support, and civic engagement.
Derrick currently serves on the board of Nashville Peacemakers, an organization addressing gun violence, gang violence, and sex trafficking through mentorship and youth programming. In fall 2025, the brothers founded Boseman Family LLC, officially launched in June 2026.
Derrick calls it “a legacy vehicle built to preserve our family’s vision, protect generational assets, develop leadership, and pass down wisdom, values, and opportunity to future generations.” The company combines storytelling, the arts, and community impact. Kevin describes their foundation simply as:
“Our parents taught us that when we are out in the world, we are representing the family. We are each other’s assignment.”
According to court documents, Kevin and Derrick Boseman claim that Simone Ledward-Boseman has not properly distributed Chadwick Boseman’s remaining estate assets in the six years since his passing. Because of this, the brothers are asking the court to remove her as administrator of the estate.
In their petition, Kevin and Derrick allege that Ledward has maintained sole control over the estate without consulting Chadwick Boseman’s parents, Leroy and Carolyn. The filing states that Leroy and Carolyn are entitled to 25% of the estate. The petition also notes that Ledward is entitled to 50% since Chadwick died without a will about six days after their 2020 wedding.
The brothers reference a 2022 court order that they say directed Ledward to distribute assets, including a USD 40,000 long-term care policy meant for Carolyn. However, they claim she has continued to manage the estate unilaterally, leaving Chadwick’s family without closure or a role in decisions affecting Leroy and Carolyn’s interests. Kevin and Derrick further allege that the estate includes assets beyond the previously listed bank accounts and insurance policy.
The brothers have listed royalties and residuals, image and intellectual property rights, real property, an undisclosed bank account, and other personal belongings. The filing suggests that a lack of transparency has created concerns that assets are being withheld from both the family and the court.
The brothers say the long-term care policy was never given to Carolyn, and that one of Chadwick Boseman’s bank accounts, along with his IRA, remain open, with the contents unknown to them. They also claim that residual payments from SAG-AFTRA between 2020 and now have not been accounted for, and that unclaimed property linked to Chadwick was never collected or distributed.
Additionally, they allege that Ledward has retained exclusive control over Chadwick’s image and intellectual property rights, allowing her to continue benefiting financially from his name and work.
The petition further states that Ledward has prevented Chadwick’s family from pursuing business opportunities that could benefit his aging parents. In light of these claims, Kevin and Derrick are requesting that the court appoint Jason Rubin, a private professional fiduciary and forensic accountant, to replace Ledward as estate administrator.
