Mary Kom's ex-husband opened up about their children's reaction on knowing about their mother's affairs, and how they suffering the most.
Mary Kom is the most renowned female boxer. However, the athlete is in the news for her personal life and her now-very-public divorce feud with her ex-husband, Onler. The two parted ways after twenty years of marriage and grown-up children. Their divorce was finalised in 2023, and in 2025, Mary confirmed their divorce. Recently, Mary shocked everyone by claiming that she was the sole breadwinner for the family, and her husband would sleep at home. Now, Onler shared his side of the story and how it is their children suffering the most.
Mary Kom's ex-husband, Onler, shared his side of the story in an interview with the Hindustan Times. He revealed that his oldest kids were heartbroken and unhappy with their mother's affair. In fact, one of them wanted to beat up the man. However, it is Onler who tried to pacify them. He said:
"I met my oldest kids recently. We spent some time together. They were heartbroken and very unhappy with their mother’s alleged affair. One of them said they wanted to beat up the man. I told them to let go and focus on the happy things and memories. And that I will always be here for them, no matter what. That I would always be their father."
In the same interview, Onler revealed that Mary had many affairs, and he had proof of the same. He revealed that she had an affair with a junior boxer in 2013, when they were married. But their families intervened and asked them to compromise for the sake of their children. He stated that she was the one who cheated on him. He said:
"First off, let me tell you that she has had many affairs during the course of our marriage. And I have proof. She had an affair with a junior boxer in 2013 and I have proof. But our families intervened, and we had reached a compromise. I agreed to let go for the sake of our kids and our family. So she is the one who cheated."
Mary Kom and Onler's marriage was far from conventional. While she was the sole breadwinner, he was raising the kids at home. He revealed that when they met, he was preparing for the UPSC exam, and he was also a contract football player. However, she was the one who asked him to give up his career and support her. She was the one who asked him to raise their children. He revealed that he was the one who bathed them, fed them, took them to coaching, and kept the hour in good shape. He said:
"I was preparing for UPSC when we met. I was also a contract football player for Shillong's Excise and Customs department. She requested me to give up my career and support her. She asked me to raise the kids. She was passionate about boxing and I loved her, and I thought her passion was our passion. She was away for weeks and months. I raised the kids. I bathed them, fed them, took them to coaching and kept the house running!"
