Amid her participation, her ugly divorce battle with her ex-husband, Onler, is in the spotlight.
Indian boxer and politician Mary Kom confirmed her divorce from her footballer husband, Karung Onkholer, in 2025, after 20 years of their marriage. Initially, when the rumors of their divorce surfaced, Mary didn’t reveal the reason behind their split, but in early 2026, she accused Onler of cheating her out of crores of rupees that she had earned through her boxing career.
She also claimed that he took loans in her name, mortgaged her property, and transferred assets into his name without her proper consent. During her appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Mary Kom revealed that her ex-husband, Onler, lived off her finances and never earned a penny.
She also highlighted that after sustaining the career-ending injury just before the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she saw the true face of her ex-husband, Onler. Mary revealed that she caught Onler red-handed when he had withdrawn Rs. 10 lakhs from her account.
However, after Mary’s accusations, Onler revealed that all of Mary's allegations were untrue. Onler revealed that Mary had an affair with a junior boxer in 2013. Her affair led to a major fallout between them, which they later reconciled. He also alleged that Mary had an affair with someone from the Mary Kom Boxing Academy in 2017.
In the same interview, Onler also revealed that he has proof of Mary’s affair. He revealed how he remained silent despite being targeted again and again for their divorce. Speaking about the same, Onler shared:
“Firstly, in 2013, she was having an affair with a junior boxer. Our families had a fight, and after that, we compromised. And since 2017, she’s been having a relationship (with someone) working at the Mary Kom Boxing Academy. I have their WhatsApp messages as proof. I have proof, with the name of the person with whom she was having an affair. I remained silent. We’re divorced. I don’t mind if she wants to have another husband. But don’t ever blame me.”
In the same interview, Onler also revealed that, even after living with her for 18 years, he still lives in a rented property in Delhi. He also questioned Mary about her false allegations against him and revealed that he had helped her start the academy and get it registered, but that someone else is the chairman. He also revealed that, though Mary was earning money for the family, he was the one who raised their children.
Mary Kom has made an immense contribution to the world of boxing. The pride of India, MC Mary, has proven herself multiple times through her incredible achievements in the boxing arena. Nicknamed ‘Magnificent Mary’, the Government of Manipur conferred on Mary the title ‘Meethoi Leima ’ (which means great or exceptional lady) after her sixth world title. She is the first Indian to win a gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games and the only Indian woman to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
