After Madonna, Lizzo Takes Over NYC With Surprise Performance For Album Release And Pride Month

Lizzo took the NYC gap bar crowds into a frenzy by throwing it back with drag queens celebrating pride month and album release.

Pride month is here, and the celebrations are in full swing. Love and visibility are taking centre stage as people express themselves boldly and authentically. The loud and colourful celebrations are seeing celebrity allies join in, thrilling their fans. Recently, A-lister, Madonna stopped the traffic at Times Square for a surprise Pride Month performance. Now, guess who has followed her footsteps and participated in the celebrations of identity? It's popstar, Lizzo, who opted for a surprise act at a gay bar to celebrate both her new album and Pride Month.

Lizzo threw it back at NYC gay bars in Pride Month

Lizzo is known for her powerful voice, energetic performances, and signature twerking, and she didn't disappoint in her June 4, 2026 special performance either. She hit her iconic dance move and got the crowd wild at the bars in the famed gayborhoods Hell's Kitchen and the West Village, according to Page Six. The About Damn Time singer's primary objective was to promote her new album, Bitch and what better way to celebrate an album about being a baddie than amid drag queens. She started her gay bar hopping with Hardware, where she bought the entire bar a round of drinks.

And after getting the crowd all drunk and the party going, Lizzo went to Pieces Bar and again spent big bucks to fill the crowd's glasses. Lizzo wore a white t-shirt with her album's name on it and paired it with a leopard-print miniskirt. She kept her honey-brown hair open and opted for glossy makeup and golden, glossy sandals. At Pieces, the Boys singer had a lot of fun watching the legendary New York drag queen, Shequida's show. Lizzo even performed two songs and danced with the drag queens, a source told Page Six. The spy further stated that everyone was very warm and welcoming towards Lizzo and thrilled at her surprise appearance. Their exact words were:

"[Lizzo] twerked with the [drag] queens...She sang live...Everyone was so excited and surprised to see her...[Lizzo] made it rain cash on Shequida."

Lizzo's next stop for her album promotion campaign

Lizzo's unique album promotion campaign did not end with bar visits. The night was far from over for her as he headed towards her next stop. According to Page Six, the singer posted a video from West Houston St., where she used a projector to display her album title and release date on a building in Soho. Lizzo even joked that the building was also falling short of the space her new album's poster deserved. She was quoted as saying: 

"My album just dropped, and I don't think a poster is big enough, honey."

About Lizzo's new album, Bitch

Bitch is Lizzo's fifth studio album, which officially dropped on June 5, 2026. It is her first major album release since the 2022's Special. The new album was originally titled, Love in Real Life and scheduled for a 2025 release. However, after early pop singles like Still Bad failed to gain the desired traction, Lizzo dropped her 2025 rap mixtape, My Face Hurts From Smiling, and then revamped her latest studio album. Don't Make Me Love U, the album's official lead single, is a popular ballad. Bitch, the title track, samples Missy Elliott's 1999 track, I'm A Bitch.
