Madonna recently debuted a new look, including freckles and a 90s-style blowout. The 68-year-old's smooth skin, devoid of any wrinkles or fine lines, made her seem unrecognizable to many.
Weeks after her 68th birthday, Madonna shared photos in which her skin looked as smooth as butter. The Confessions II star left her fans wide-mouthed with her ageless look, where she was seen sporting big, bouncy hair and clean-girl makeup with a smattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose. The part of her look that stunned everybody was her flawless skin, which cannot be achieved simply by a good foundation or base makeup.
Even close-ups of Madonna's face showed no wrinkles or fine lines on her forehead or cheeks, unlike the changes naturally associated with aging. The pop sensation's skin literally seemed to be glowing. Besides her face, even the Material Girl singer's lean, hourglass figure at 68 left fans unable to believe it was actually Madonna. "No I still don't believe that's her," wrote an X (formerly Twitter) user.
Others speculated that she either underwent cosmetic surgery or was replaced by a clone. One of them wrote, "Okay, 'unrecognizable' might be putting it mildly. Madonna is 68, and I swear... she looks like she had a full-on FACE TRANSPLANT. I had to stare at this photo for a minute before my brain registered 'Madonna.'"
They added, "There's aging gracefully... there's cosmetic work... and then there's looking like you entered the witness protection program. Would you have recognized her without the caption?" Another internet user echoed similar sentiments, stating, "you all dont understand...she is unrecognizable because she is not Madonna. That simple...they make you believe plastic surgery does that... think think think."
Amid the discussion about Madonna's age-defying look, pics comparing her appearance over the years resurfaced. This time, it was an expert who shared with Daily Mail what all possible cosmetic surgeries Madonna might have undergone to achieve her present look. Board-certified surgeon Dr Barry Weintraub reviewed before-and-after images of Madonna and said that he saw signs of at least 12 cosmetic facial procedures.
The medical professional estimated that the procedures would have cost "multiple six-figure sums." He pointed out that Madonna has also lost her characteristic dimples, likely due to the fillers. As for the other procedures, Barry claimed that she had an eyebrow lift and some work done on her eyelids to give them a younger appearance and remove wrinkles.
Barry added that Madonna likely also had Botox injected into the forehead and around the eyes, as there were no noticeable wrinkles when she moved her face. He also felt that the singer had at least one nose job (rhinoplasty) to make her nose more pointed and sharpen her facial features. Lastly, the surgeon predicted that Madonna had more work done on her cheekbones to achieve a fuller facial appearance. He stated:
"Her cheekbones are much, much fuller, and that is secondary to either fat or filler injections...unfortunately people tend to fill their faces to try to plump out wrinkles."
