John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessett's real-life story was no less than a film's tale, and Ryan Murphy beautifully tried narrating the once-madly-in-love couple's story.
Ryan Murphy's recent series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette beautifully depicted the most famous story of two who were madly in love and how they died together in a fatal accident. The fans who have followed John F. Kennedy's tragic story, understand all the dramatic twists and turns in the series, while many wonder if it was fiction.
For those who don't know, John F. Kennedy and Carolyn Bessette died in a tragic way in a plane crash, which the former was piloting. The plane, which carried John, Carolyn and her sister, Lauren, crashed into the Atlantic Ocean as they were on their way to Martha's Vineyard on July 16, 1999. However, Ryan Murphy's series began in 1992, when John and Carolyn's worlds collided, they fell in love, and they became America's most-loved real-life pair.
In the series, Paul Anthony Kelly played John F. Kennedy's character, while Sarah Pidgeon played the role of Carolyn Bessette. The series is largely inspired by Elizabeth Beller's 2024 book, Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. The nine-episode series got into controversy as JFK Jr.'s nephew, Jack Schlossberg. As per him, it was a 'grotesque' way to gain profit from his uncle's story. However, Ryan slammed back, stating that the nephew didn't even remember the late JFK Jr.
Another one who didn't like the projection of Carolyn Bessette in the series is her colourist, Brad Johns, who slammed the colour of the lead actress's hair. Many feared that the series won't be able to capture the true style of Carolyn. In her short life, Carolyn never gave any TV interviews, but it was her style and influence in the photos that left a lasting impression.
In episode 7 of the series, the newlyweds returned from their honeymoon in Turkey and found paparazzi waiting for them. In reality, the situation was extremely difficult as photographers kept following Carolyn everywhere, and she had to force a smile. Some even tried to get a reaction from Carolyn; they even questioned if she was pregnant. The couple had thought that the craze around Carolyn would fade once they got married, but it only increased with time.
Costume designer, Rudy Mance tried his best to recreate Carolyn's head-to-toe Prada outfit, which she chose to wear during the first press meeting. It wasn't easy to find the pencil skirt, black sweater, and knee-high boots. They got a lot of items from eBay Japan, Etsy, and Ukraine.
It was a true fact that John did his best to calm the photographers stationed outside the door. He even told them that getting married is a big adjustment and they should. Give his wife, Carolyn, the privacy she needed. But the truce lasted for seconds, and as soon as John and Carolyn walked towards their car, the photographers broke out to get the best shot.
In the series, it was shown that Carolyn was eager to get back to work after her wedding. So, she had signed up for a slam-dunk interview with Ralph Lauren. But when she saw photographers creating a scene outside the building, she turned down the opportunity. In reality, there is no record of Caolyn working with Ralph Lauren.
Well, Carolyn actually dated Michael, who was a model. But they had broken up when she met John. However, as per the book, The Other Man, Carolyn was in a relationship until she died. This left many of Carolyn's friends in shock.
