Lokah, the 2025 superhero film, was a massive hit at the box office. For the unversed, the film was released in theatres on August 28, 2025. After the successful theatrical run, it also landed on OTT. On October 31, 2025, the film was released on Jio Hotstar. Soon after Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra became a success, people became curious to know what was in store for the next part. Now that the makers, including Dulquer Salman, revealed that Lokah 2 is on the cards, here’s what we know about its release.
The anticipation has been high ever since Lokah got released. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra director, Arun Dominic, confirmed that the sequel to the superhero saga is in the works. Amid the growing buzz, as per the latest reports, the makers of the Lokah universe will take it on the floors by the last quarter of 2026, including September, October, November, and December. Now comes the biggest question: When is Lokah 2 releasing in theatres? According to a report by Sacnilk, Lokah 2 is expected to release during the Onam 2027 festive season.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the Lokah director, Arun Dominic, recalled how the script of Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra got finalised. He revealed that Dulquer Salmaan, who produced the film under the banner of Wayfarer Films, got extremely excited after hearing the script. He also confirmed the sequel to Lokah. He highlighted that, as there is no formula behind making a blockbuster, he is going with the basics. He mentioned that after the massive success of Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, the pressure has been there for the next part. He was quoted as saying:
"He got extremely excited after hearing it, and that’s how the film came together. Once it was released, it sort of took on a life of its own. There’s no formula for making a blockbuster. So I’m going back to basics — writing, rewriting, and figuring things out slowly. The pressure is definitely there. I’ve managed to write only a couple of scenes so far."
Kalyani Priyadarshan was the heart of Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. She played the role of 'Chandra' a.k.a 'Neeli'. However, her return with the upcoming sequel is not yet confirmed. But her closing statement in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, "If an anomaly were to happen, I will return", sparked rumours about her comeback in the sequel, Lokah 2.
Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra mid-credits and post-credits introduced two main characters who will play an important role in Lokah 2. Firstly, Tovino Thomas was featured in the mid-credits and introduced as 'Michael', the 'Chathan', and the post-credits featured Dulquer Salmaan as 'Charlie', the 'Odiyan'.
According to a News18 report, Malayalam superstar, Mammootty will be seen in the role of 'Moothon'. Alongside, Tovino Thomas and Dulquer Salmaan, Mammootty will also play a key role in the upcoming sequel, Lokah 2. If the report is believed to be true, then Lokah 2 will be the first film that will feature the father-son duo, Mammootty and Dulquer Salmaan.
Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra featured Kalyani Priyadarshan as the female protagonist. Alongside Kalyani, the film also starred Naslen, Sandy Master, Chandu Salim Kumar and Arun Kurian. The film garnered significant attention due to Kalyani Priyadarshan’s strong screen presence. However, it was Sandy Master who stole the spotlight. He played the role of antagonist, and his vicious activities involving Kalyani were one of the most-talked-about elements of Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra.
