During their affair, Kyrsten Sinema allegedly sent some flirty messages to Matthew Ammel. In her deposition, Heather Ammel read aloud a text message she found on her ex-husband's phone, which was from Krysten. Heather also attached a screenshot of the message in the court filings. In the text, Krysten allegedly talked about missing Matthew and wanting to be in his arms. The message could be read as:
"I hope your day was okay. Thinking of you. I am with you. I keep waking up during my sleep and reaching over for your arms to hold me."
Amid the highly publicized lawsuit filed by Heather Ammel against Kyrsten Sinema, new details have emerged. As per Kyrsten's recent admission, she slept with her then-bodyguard, Matthew Ammel for the first time around Memorial Day 2024, which was in the month of May. However, they go way back: they first connected around April 2022, when Matthew retired from the US Army and was hired by private companies to provide security details for Kyrsten's public events.
Kyrsten and Matthew might have began their affair within a year of him joining as her bodyguard. In the fall of 2023, the former head of her security team, Vrindavan Bellord, resigned. Vrindavan reportedly cited suspecting a physical relationship between Krysten and "other security members". Although she did not name the person back then, it was later confirmed to be Matthew Ammel. As per the court filings, Vrindavan even tried to talk Matthew out of the affair, but he refused "due to the financial security of the job."
Around May 2024, Krysten and Matthew reportedly had their first intimate encounter while they stayed at a Napa Airbnb with her friends, Penny and Grant Croissant and another member of her security detail. Sharing the details of their intimacy in her deposition, Krysten shared:
"We were staying at an Airbnb in Napa, California. We were outside. Matt kissed me. We went inside and had sex."
After their initial physical intimacy, Krysten and Matthew engaged in the act multiple times. Sharing the exact time period, Krysten Sinema recalled their June 2024 tryst during the wedding of CNN anchor Jessica Dean in New York City. The former US Senate revealed that she and Matthew had separate hotel rooms but got "intimate" in her room. The following encounters took place in the same year, in July at her Washington, D.C., apartment, in August at Aspen, Colorado, during their fundraising trip, and in September again at her Washington, D.C., apartment.
The affair continued into October 2024, when Krysten slept with Matthew at her house in Phoenix, Arizona. Now cut to March 2026, Krysten Sinema admitted her affair with Matthew Ammel and claimed that she found out about Mathew being a married man and a father in December 2023. According to the recent legal filings, at that time Matthew introduced her to his wife, Heather Ammel, and their kids. Kyrsten stated:
"I did not learn that Mr. Ammel resided in North Carolina, and lived there with his wife and children, until approximately December 2023. He introduced me to his wife that month in Las Vegas, Nevada, following a U2 concert I acquired tickets for them to attend."
Matthew and Kyrsten continued the affair until his ex-wife found flirty text messages from the former U.S. Senator on his phone and discovered their affair. Heather Ammel then filed a lawsuit against Kyrsten, accusing her of being a "homewrecker" and demanding at least USD 75,000 in damages.
