Former US Senator Kyrsten Sinema has been facing intense online scrutiny for her scandalous past with her ex-bodyguard, Matthew Ammel. In January 2026, his ex-wife, Heather Lynn Ammel filed a federal lawsuit against Kyrsten, alleging her affair with Mattew was responsible for their marriage having fallen apart. As per recent updates in the case, Kyrsten admitted to having been intimate with Matthew multiple times.

Amid that, reports suggest that Krysten might not be sued on charges of being a 'homewrecker'. She cited a specific law to argue that Heather had no grounds to sue her on that ground.

Will Heather Ammel be unable to sue Kyrsten Sinema for homewrecker charges? Here's what we know

Matthew Ammel's ex-wife, Heather Ammel, is hell-bent on suing Kyrsten Sinema for having an affair with him. Heather Ammel originally filed the civil lawsuit in Moore County, North Carolina. The case was subsequently transferred to a federal court in North Carolina by the legal team of the former US Senator. Heather's lawsuit was filed under North Carolina's "alienation of affection" law (locally known as a "homewrecker" law).

Heather sought more than USD 75,000 in damages, alleging that Krysten Sinema seduced her husband of 14 years by luring him with lavish trips, job promotions, and a higher standard of living. According to recent court filings, Krysten has admitted to her affair with Matthew; however, she filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit based on geographical and jurisdictional grounds.

Krysten's attorneys argued that the court is ineligible to sue her because she has no ties to North Carolina. She testified that her affair with her former bodyguard began in California and continued in New York, Aspen, Washington, D.C., and Phoenix, Arizona; hence, a case filed in North Carolina lacks jurisdiction over her. If the court bases its decision on this point, then Krysten Sinema will be free of Heather Ammel's homewrecker charges.

Heather Ammel fired back at Krysten Sinema's arguments

Heather pushed back at Krysten Sinema's arguments, stating that she couldn't be used in North Carolina. Heather claimed that the politician sent Matthew Ammel romantic messages while he was married and living in North Carolina. Based on that, Heather argued that she is eligible to press charges against Krysten in the state, which allows a wife to sue her husband's mistress for breaking up the marriage.

In her deposition, Heather read aloud a few flirty text messages from Krysten, which she allegedly found on her ex-husband's phone. Heather also attached screenshots of the messages in the court filings, which media outlet TMZ acquired. In the text, Krysten allegedly talked about missing Matthew, hoping he was fine, and wanting to sleep in his arms. The messages could be read as:

Regarding Krysten and Matthew's affair, they got intimate for the first time around May 2024, as per her recent deposition. The affair continued into October 2024, when Krysten slept with Matthew at her house in Phoenix, Arizona. The politician claimed that she learned in December 2023 that Mathew was married and a father. At that time,  Matthew allegedly introduced her to his wife, Heather Ammel, and their kids. The duo continued the affair until Heather discovered it through flirty texts on his phone.
