Famous Australian pop singer, songwriter and actress, Kylie Minogue, is in the headlines for her second cancer diagnosis. She talked about it in her new Netflix documentary series, KYLIE. Not only this, but she also talked about her ex-boyfriend, who committed suicide and how she still feels his presence.
For the unversed, Kylie Minogue is known for her role in the famous TV serial, Neighbours, in the 1980s. She soon became a pop star with her hit chartbusters. Not many know that she dated the INXS frontman, Michael Hutchence, between 1989 and 1991. Even after their breakup, they remained close friends and were in touch before his death in 1997. In her new Netflix Documentary series, KYLIE, which was released on May 20, 2026, she talked about how she cried for the first time in interviews. She stated that she knew that it was gonna happen. She revealed that whenever she thinks about him or talk about him, she often feels his presence around her. She said:
"That was the first time I cried on camera in the interviews, I was like 'uh oh, uh oh, uh oh,' I knew it was gonna happen and here it comes. I didn't think it would be about that conversation. But when I really think about him and talk about him, I can often just feel his presence and think about that time."
Michael died by suicide in 1997. Talking about him, Kylie stated that she really tried to put herself back, but she kept getting emotional. She stated that it might be something people could relate to, as a loss is a loss which never heals; you just start living with it. The top hit songs of INXS were Need You Tonight, New Sensation, Devil Inside, Never Tear Us Apart, and Suicide Blonde. She was quoted as saying:
"In the conversations about Michael, I was really trying to put myself back in the moment, so I would become more emotional, which was interesting, I think it was good. I think maybe it’s just something that people can relate to."
Kylie Minogue also gave her health update and revealed that she has been diagnosed with another cancer. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, and she talked about the same in the three-part series. In an interview with Hello! Kylie revealed that talking about the experience was cathartic and difficult. She said:
"You know, I'm talking about it from a vantage point where I’m not in that situation now, so my only struggle with that is I can never really tell that whole story because there’s a lot to it and it doesn’t kind of come and go. It’s something you still have to navigate."
In the documentary, Kylie talked about keeping the second diagnosis private while working on her music career. She revealed that she was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in 2021, and she found out about it during her routine checkup and has been successfully treated due to her early detection.
