Sunil Gaikwad, who was part of the team that retrieved Ketan's body on June 18, said the 25-year-old suffered catastrophic head injuries.
Speaking to ANI, Gaikwad recalled what the rescue team saw when they reached the spot after receiving a police alert about the incident. According to his account, Ketan was already dead when the team reached the location. His head was severely damaged with a crushed skull and multiple bruises on his limbs. Gaikwad said:
"On reaching Lohagad Fort, we discovered a deceased boy with severe head injuries, including a crushed skull, and multiple bruises on his limbs. He had died. We retrieved the dead body and carried it out through the jungle, though we had some difficulty lifting it on the steep slope."
Sharing further details about the day, the staff member said that the police were informed about the incident around 10:30 a.m., and it took them almost two hours to rescue the body, carry it through dense forest, and down a steep slope before handing it over to an ambulance. The recovery operation allegedly continued until nearly 12:30 p.m., and the body was handed over to an ambulance around 1:30 p.m.
Ketan's fiancée, Siya Goyal, has been considered the prime accused in the case, and people who saw her after the tragedy have noted her unusual calmness. Speaking in front of the camera, Gaikwad, too, described a similar demeanour. He noted that though Siya remained present at the scene while her dead fiancé's body was being recovered, she looked distressed but 'didn't cry' or show any emotions, unlike the onlookers who were loudly distressed. He claimed:
"Siya was present during the retrieval but appeared calm and not overtly emotional, unlike the other onlookers who were loudly distressed."
On June 18, 2026, just a day before Siya Goyal would have celebrated her 20th birthday, 26-year-old Ketan Agarwal was found dead after a 400-foot fall from the cliff of Lonavala's Lohagar Fort. Police allege he was pushed off a cliff by Siya and her alleged boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, 22, as part of a planned conspiracy to stop their wedding, which was scheduled for November.
On Saturday, Siya's parents, Pooja and Praveen Goyal, arrived at the Lonavala Rural Police Station for questioning. A day earlier, her brother Sahil Goyal was interrogated for nearly 10 hours. According to police, Sahil told investigators the family would have immediately called off the marriage had Siya informed them that she did not want to marry Ketan.
Amid the ongoing questioning of Siya and Chetan's family and acquaintances, authorities have noted that the accused lovers exchanged more than 2,000 phone calls, and both wiped their chat history after Ketan's death. Both devices have been sent for forensic analysis in an attempt to recover deleted conversations that may help establish the sequence of events.
Siya Goyal allegedly told investigators that she had expressed her reluctance to marry Ketan Agarwal directly to him. She reportedly claimed that Ketan refused to call off the wedding and allegedly warned her that even if she ran away, his influential family would track her down and ensure the marriage took place.
During questioning, Siya also allegedly stated that she was unhappy with the fact that Ketan had partial hair loss and wore a wig, adding that she had developed feelings for co-accused Chetan Chaudhary during that period. Officials have also alleged that Siya and Chetan remained in frequent contact for several months before Ketan's death and are examining thousands of calls exchanged between them as part of the ongoing investigation.
