Kathleen Turner, one of Hollywood's most prominent leading ladies of the 1980s, has been hitting the headlines ever since her Romancing the Stone co-star, Michael Douglas, confirmed that they were indeed in a secret relationship. For those who don't know, Kathleen and Michael's dating buzz was rife in 1984. The reason behind this was their burning chemistry in the movie Romancing the Stone.

During that time, Kathleen was single, and Michael was married but separated from his wife, Diandra Luker. Kathleen and Michael continued to 'lie' about their secret relationship until recently, when the actor revealed that they were secret lovers. Their relationship went on until Diandra showed up on the set of their film and confronted Kathleen, stating that her then-estranged husband was still married to her and was not available. This stopped the actress, and she backed off.

Amid this revelation, people have been looking back at Kathleen's career. She was one of the leading ladies of her time, having grabbed attention with her very first film, Body Heat. Even though she has been one of the most gorgeous actresses, Kathleen was asked to get plastic surgery before she turned 40. Yes! Speaking to The Mirror, Kathleen shared that Faye Dunaway once told her that if she didn't get plastic surgery by the age of 40, it would be too late.

Kathleen said she was okay with not getting any work done on her face, as she didn't want to be cher, and have a face that never 'moves or changes' like Cher. She further talked about being a sex symbol for a while and then quickly finding her way out of the label. Sharing that it never affected her choices, Kathleen said:

"Faye Dunaway once told me that if I did not start plastic surgery by the time I was 40, it would be too late. And I said, ‘Well fine, I won’t do it then’. I don’t want to be a Cher, where my face never changes or moves. At the moment I think I’m aging rather well. I was considered a sex symbol only for a while. I fought my way out of it very quickly. The power of my attractiveness for years was indeed an asset. But that did not control my choices at all.”

Kathleen Turner shared whether she has ever gone under the knife

It was in the 1990s when Kathleen was diagnosed with a crippling form of arthritis. The situation was so intense that doctors even told her that she would possibly never be able to walk again. However, Kathleen fought her way back. In an interview with the Daily Mail, the actress mentioned that 'men are scared to ask me (her) out'. The actress further mentioned that she has never had any surgery. To her, plastic surgery is 'destructive'.

According to her, she didn't look the way she did in Body Heat or The Graduate (stage adaptation). She said people should get over the version of herself that existed years ago. Kathleen feels that if someone doesn't look like themselves, it doesn't justify being 'sexy'. She further pointed out that there are actresses who can't just move their faces as they should (an effect of surgeries), and Kathleen revealed that she would never be able to act without her face moving. The actress said:

"This is where I can say, ‘Do you know what? I don’t look like I did 30 years ago. Get over it. No one is sexy if they don’t look like themselves. You see a perfectly good actor who suddenly can’t move their forehead or their eyebrows. How do you act without eyebrows? I can’t.”
