Kamya Punjabi recalled being physically abused in her first marriage and how she ended up locking herself in the bathroom for hours.

Though she had done some amazing work in her professional life, Kamya led a very unhappy personal life after marrying Bunty Negi in 2003. Recently, the actress spoke about the darkest phase of her life during her first marriage.
After her marriage to Bunty Negi in 2003, she gave birth to their daughter Aara in 2009. But despite her marriage and kid, Kamya never stopped working. On the other hand, Bunty was not pleased with the idea of Kamya working and asked her to stop taking acting projects. When she refused, the marriage turned abusive.
Bunty was not only insecure about Kamya’s profession but also doubtful of the actress. He would call her every 10 minutes, and if she failed to pick up, he would start to doubt her. As a result, the marriage turned abusive, and Kamya became a victim of domestic violence. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Kamya shared her ordeal and said:
“Yes, I have been through domestic violence. Mai award tak lene gayi hoon ek baar aur mujhe apne aap pe sharam aayi ki kaun hoon mai aur mai ye kya kar rahi hoon. Main ghar me maar kha rahi hoon aur baahar jaake award le rahi hoon. Ye kya Zindagi jee rahi hoon mai. Bathroom me akele apne aap ko band karke raaton raat itne ghanto tak royi hoon. Poori poori raat baithe baithe royi hoon.”
In the same conversation, Kamya also revealed that the abuse was so much that it left marks on her. The actress revealed that she went to work the next day after applying makeup so that the marks of her abuse were not visible. As a result, Kamya sought divorce from Bunty and didn’t ask a penny from him as alimony. Their divorce was finalised in 2013, and since then, she single-handedly raised her daughter.
After their marriage in 2003, issues started cropping up, and within two years, the duo filed for divorce. However, they had decided to give their marriage a second chance, and in 2009 they were blessed with a baby girl, Aara. But as the years passed, they had realised they were not meant for each other. In an interview with ETimes, Kamya recalled an incident after which she knew her marriage would not work out. The actress revealed that when her husband met with a severe accident and was on bed rest for a long time, she took care of him wholeheartedly but received no acknowledgement, which disappointed her a lot.
The relationship turned abusive with time, and Kamya couldn’t take it any further. Once their daughter witnessed their gruesome fight, that was the moment when Kamya decided to end the marriage. She didn’t inform anyone and simply picked up her handbag and left Bunty's house.
Soon, Kamya found love again in Shalabh Dang, a Delhi-based healthcare professional. After dating each other for some time, the duo tied the knot on February 10, 2020, and are living one of the best phases of their lives together.
