Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleJohn Paul Miller, also known as JP Miller, rose to headlines after Netflix released a documentary, Death of the Pastor's Wife, about his estranged wife, Mica Miller's passing. For those who are not aware, Mica died by suicide, and after the initial investigation, John was accused of being the charged energy that drove Mica to her end. And now, with the trial date approaching in October 2026, viewers have grown curious about whether he is still working as a pastor.
Growing up around church, religion was a massive part of John Paul Miller's life. He had been closely involved with the church even before the events of Death of the Pastor's Wife took place. While Netflix's new documentary was difficult to watch at times, given that viewers closely saw how devout Christian singer Mica fell apart, the questions have continued even after her death. Following Mica Miller's passing, there were widespread protests outside the Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach.
JP Miller was arrested for cyberstalking and giving false statements to federal investigators. However, he is now awaiting trial; questions about his profession continue to plague viewers. Given the role Christianity played in his life, even before he became a pastor, many are curious about what JP Miller's faith looks like today.
For most of the Netflix documentary, Solid Rock Church was seen through various clips available on its website. According to Death of the Pastor's Wife, both JP Miller and Mica Miller spent a great deal of time there, with the former as the pastor and the latter as the leader of worship. However, things took a turn after Mica was found dead. An enormous protest made it almost impossible for Solid Rock to operate as a functional church. There are even reports of several physical altercations between JP and a protester.
As a result, the pastor sold the land for a total of USD 2.1 million. While little is known about the building's future, some have suggested it might be torn down and replaced with condos. The pastor blamed the city, arguing it did nothing to protect the church and its congregation. John Paul Miller's lawyer reflected on the situation at the time and said:
"It's been literally impossible for John Paul and others around him to live in peace, and honestly I have to blame the City of Myrtle Beach."
While his journey with Solid Rock church was cut short, JP Miller is still working as a pastor, just in a different way. Despite the scandal, Mica Miller's death, and the closing of Solid Rock's doors, JP Miller is still a practicing preacher. According to reports, while he is still practicing, he is far from the atmosphere of Solid Rock, and his new group, Mercy Church, was founded in 2024.
There's no massive stage, events, or band; in fact, the group doesn't even have permanent lodgings. Reports allege that there are only 15 to 20 loyal members and that the church bounces around among available locations. This includes vacant storefronts, gyms, and basically any space the church can get its hands on. John's new wife, Suzie Skinner, leads worship in Mica Miller's stead, despite having witnessed what her predecessor went through.
