The recent incident in the United States has left everyone shocked. The demise of the 37-year-old, Rachel Nicole Good, during an ICE raid left the world enraged and since there has been an ongoing verbal clash between people demanding justice for Renee and the people who are defending the ICE agent. Amid that, new reports have emerged claiming that the officer, Jonathan Ross, was previously dragged and injured during a traffic stop, which could have contributed to the incident that happened on January 7, 2026.

Jonathan Ross was previously involved in a similar incident, where he got severely injured

According to reports, in the summer of 2025, Jonathan Ross was pinned and dragged for 100 yards during a traffic stop. Roughly six months later, a similar incident took the life of Renee Nicole Good. However, Vice President JD Vance has now urged the people to consider that Jonathan might have been sensitive about the oncoming automobile and stated:

"That very ICE officer nearly had his life ended, dragged by a car, six months ago. You think maybe he’s a little bit sensitive about someone ramming him with an automobile?"

Former Minneapolis Police Chief, Medaria Arradondo also shared his views on the incident that took place on January 7, 2026. During a conversation with CNN, the former Chief said, "To use deadly force…the elements of that have to be so concerning to open up fire on an individual". Retired FBI agent, Michael Harrigan, who is now consulting on law enforcement practices and tactics, said it's not unreasonable to believe that the prior car-dragging case may have resulted in Jonathan pulling the trigger. However, he also mentioned that every agent is trained to evaluate every incident individually.

"The fact is, every incident has to stand alone. It doesn’t really matter what they went through before. It’s never going to be a justification for something else. They know that."

While Homeland Security Assistant Secretary, Tricia McLaughlin, declined to name Jonathan Ross, citing violent threats to ICE agents. He did mention that the agent had served the country his entire life. However, later the name was publicly revealed as Jonathan Ross. The agent's decade-plus of experience included a selection to an ICE Special Response Team, which requires 30 hours of tryouts, continuous training and expert marksman qualifications.

What happened six months ago?

According to the court filing, the incident involving Jonathan Ross happened last year in June. The case started in 2022 with Federal agents attempting to arrest a man named Roberto Carlos Munoz-Guatemala, an undocumented immigrant charged with sexually abusing a teenage relative. While ICE asked the local authority to hold the man in prison, their request was denied. The court affidavit reported that the man was from Guatemala, while the DHS press release listed that Roberto hailed from Mexico.

The case gained speed again in the summer of 2025, and on June 17, 2025, federal officials located him at his home in Bloomington. The agents initiated a traffic stop as he drove away. The court filing listed that the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officer following Roberto was Jonathan Ross. According to the document, Jonathan initially drew his weapon but holstered it after Roberto stopped the car. However, things went south when the latter refused to lower his window or open the car door. Jonathan then broke the rear passenger window with a spring-loaded punch.

However, as he reached to unlock the door, Roberto drove onto the curb, dragging Jonathan Ross roughly 100 yards. That's when the agent fired his taser at Roberto at least twice. The video of the incident showed the speeding away vehicle as officers ran after it. Jonathan was severely injured during the incident, suffering a cut to his right arm, which received 20 stitches, and a gash to his left hand, which received 13 stitches. Roberto was charged with assault on a federal officer using a dangerous or deadly weapon, causing bodily injuries, and was convicted in December 2025 after a three-day trial.
