John Cena Is Making WWE Comeback Just Months After Awkwardly Losing His Retirement Match

John Cena confirmed that he is returning to WWE after months of announcing his retirement, and losing his last match.

John Cena is the face of WWE for many people across the world. However, when he announced his retirement last year, his fans were left heartbroken. It was hard to believe that their favourite wrestler was thinking of retiring, which in a way is the end of an era. But John Cena made a shocking return with a post on X that confirms he cannot stay away from wrestling.

John Cena announced his comeback 

John Cena is the 17-time world champion, and he wanted to say goodbye to the ring with a marvellous win. For which he had been preparing for many months, but it all went wrong after he lost the match. He was made to tap out for the first time in his twenty-year career. On March 30, 2026, John Cena shared a video on his official X and confirmed that he is going to be part of WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He wrote:

"Since retirement, my “road” has looked a little different… but now I can officially say I’m headed to WrestleMania!!!! See you in Las Vegas!"

In the clip, John Cena revealed that he has been working on a new film with Netflix. He added that he is shooting at a place which is close to Sin City. He further added that he would be hosting the two-night event. So, there won't be any action, but John Cena's presence will definitely make the event even more exciting.

John Cena's last retirement match

Reflecting on John Cena's last match, it was the first time in John Cena's wrestling career that he had tapped out in a contest, leaving his fans angry in the arena. The match started as a celebration for WWE as John Cena's greatest rivals were present by the ringside. It was a high-emotion match, which highlighted John Cena's achievements.

John Cena played the match opposite Gunther, who made it inside the ring first, and the audience booed at him. Once the 17-time World Champion, John Cena, entered to his iconic theme song, everyone greeted him warmly, including his once-rivals. The match started with Gunther, who had the upper hand. John Cena had to put Gunther away as soon as possible after making a comeback with the five-knuckle shuffle.

But the Ring General regained control and started to beat down. Soon Cena made his comeback with another five-knuckle shuffle and an AA, but Gunther was quick, and he kicked out at two, almost making John Cena pass out with a Sleeper Hold.

The match turned intense as he tossed John Cena around the ring and threw him onto the steel steps. However, John Cena came back in the match by delivering an AA. But Gunther was able to kick out, which continued the match. John Cena continued attacking Gunther, and the crowd cheered for the legend. However, Gunther used the moment to pull Cena away. The match had a lot of 'oh' and 'ah moments. Gunther was fighting to make a name, while John Cena was wrestling to keep his legacy. But in the end, Gunther proved he was too strong and locked in the skeeper, which made John Cena tap out, the first of his 20-year-long career. The crowd was left upset, but Cena kept his calm.

As the legendary wrestler waited in the ring, everyone else joined him and congratulated him on his amazing career. John Cena was left emotional by the love and reflected on his career. John Cena gave a salute to the camera and expressed gratitude in serving all these years.
