Joe Duggar’s name came back into focus after an old vacation video surfaced alongside serious criminal charges. This came two years before a girl later accused him of inappropriate behaviour during another trip to the same place in 2020. Authorities in Bay County moved forward with charges involving a minor under 12, along with another count related to behaviour toward an adult.
The resurfaced footage captures Joe Duggar during a family trip in 2018. He appeared relaxed, smiling, and playing with his young son, Garrett, who was just a few months old at the time. His wife, Kendra Duggar, also joined the trip along with her mother, Christina, who was pregnant then. The clip, originally filmed for TLC’s Counting On, captured normal family moments. Duggar interacted with children, laughed, and spent time around the house where the family stayed. At that point, nothing in the video hinted at future allegations.
However, investigators later connected the same vacation destination to a much more serious situation. According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged incident happened during a 2020 visit to Panama City Beach. The girl, who later spoke to authorities at age 14, described events that she claimed took place when she was nine.
Officials revealed that the family had stayed at a home on Danny Drive during that trip. Over time, Joe Duggar’s behaviour reportedly made the child uncomfortable. Investigators outlined that he repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap, and the situation became more concerning as the days went on. The contrast between the earlier vacation footage and the later allegations added a new layer to the case.
Authorities took Joe Duggar into custody in Washington County, Arkansas. His booking photo carried a very different image compared to his television days. He appeared unshaven, with a heavy beard and a blank expression. According to officials, the girl described another moment during the 2020 trip. She told investigators that Duggar asked her to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket. During that time, she claimed he touched her inappropriately. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office detailed that he also moved her clothing in a way that crossed clear boundaries.
Officials further shared that Duggar later expressed regret to the child, and the behaviour stopped after that point. The situation came to light when the girl’s father confronted him. During that conversation, Duggar admitted to his actions in front of both the father and a detective in Tontitown, according to law enforcement. He now faced charges that included lewd and inappropriate behaviour involving a minor under 12 years old. Authorities confirmed that he remained in custody while waiting to be transferred to Bay County, Florida.
The case also brought renewed attention to the Duggar family’s past. In 2015, Joe Duggar had openly reacted to allegations against his older brother, Josh Duggar. At that time, Josh admitted to past misconduct involving underage girls. Joe had described feeling shocked and heartbroken when those details came out.
Years later, Josh Duggar was convicted in 2021 on separate charges related to illegal material involving children. He received a prison sentence of more than 12 years and remained in custody in Texas. As Joe Duggar’s case moved forward, no official statement came from the Duggar family, according to the Daily Mail. The situation continued to unfold as authorities handled the legal process and prepared for the next steps.
