Ever since the official announcement came out, fans of Emraan Hashmi have been waiting to see what the sequel has in store for them. Except for Emraan, the other cast members are completely new. However, one question has still raised a lot of curiosity among the audience. This is related to the storyline, where people are confused whether it is going to be new or continued from the previous part.
The teaser of Awarapan 2 has been released on June 29, 2026. While sharing the teaser on Instagram, Emraan Hashmi wrote in the caption, “Shivam is back.” For the unversed, ‘Shivam’ refers to the lead character of the film, who also appeared in the first film. As of now, the caption has hinted that the story will continue from where the first film ended. But it seems like it is too early to decide before the film hits the theatres on August 14, 2026.
Directed by Mohit Suri, Awarapan became a cult classic over the years after it released in 2007. The major reason behind its popularity was the music. The storyline was completely different for the audience at that time, specifically after Emraan Hashmi built a particular reputation with his on-screen roles. In this film, he was playing ‘Shivam,’ the right-hand man of a criminal gangster, ‘Malik’.
‘Shivam’s’ life witnesses a change when he is given the responsibility to look after a mistress named ‘Reema.’ ‘Malik’ believes that ‘Reema,’ who is originally from Pakistan, is having an affair somewhere. While ‘Malik’s’ suspicion turns out to be true, he orders ‘Shivam’ to kill ‘Reema.’ ‘Shivam’ is unable to do so after he recalls the memories of his past lover, ‘Aliyah,’ who died under certain circumstances. ‘Malik’ soon finds out the truth and captures ‘Shivam’ with the help of his friend, ‘Kabir.’
‘Shivam’ escapes and hides in a monastery to recover and decides to reunite ‘Reema’ with her lover, ‘Bilal.’ ‘Kabir’ first rescues ‘Bilal’ and later finds ‘Reema’ with ‘Malik.’ While ‘Reema’ and ‘Bilal’ manage to run to a ship with ‘Shivam’s’ help, ‘Kabir’ tries to save the trio and is killed. Amid this, ‘Malik’s’ son, ‘Ronnie,’ arrives with his men, which is followed by a gunfight between both sides, leading to ‘Ronnie’s’ death along with ‘Shivam’ at the same time.
The teaser of Awarapan 2 has hinted that ‘Shivam’ possibly survived after being shot in the climax. The new glimpse features a voice of ‘Shivam,’ who says, “Kuch logon ki kahaniya unki marzi se khatam nahi hoti, unki kahani doosron ke liye likhi jaati hai.” Some new villains have been introduced, which means that ‘Shivam’ might face new threats in a completely new place.
The teaser of the sequel has specifically created headlines for bringing back the memories of the first film with its music. Moreover, the look of ‘Shivam’ is also the same, with no major changes made to the overall screen appearance. Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi are also playing important roles in Awarapan 2, which is directed by Nitin Kakkar.
