Romantic dramas don't always need loud twists to work, just honest characters we can care about. Director Kishore Kumar’s Heartin sets its story against the pretty backdrops of Jaipur and Ooty, following 'Shiva,' a quiet chef with a painful past, who finds new love in 'Sadhana' only to have his old flame 'Sahitya' return.
With soothing music, warm visuals, and a sincere tone, the film aims for a gentle, feel-good romance. But does it have enough depth to leave a lasting impression, or does it stay too safe and thin?

Heartin tries to tell a love story that feels close to real life. The film is set in Jaipur, where 'Shiva' runs a Tamil food joint called Tamil Bhavan with his friend 'Mani' and 'Mani's wife, 'Ankita.' 'Shiva' is quiet, serious, and does not smile much. He carries pain from his past.
During a heritage walk at Nahargarh, he meets 'Sadhana'. She is cheerful and open. What starts as small meetings over food slowly turns into friendship, and then love. 'Sadhana' confesses first, and 'Shiva' takes time to accept it. The first half moves at an easy pace. It shows stolen glances, simple talks, and small moments between two people getting to know each other. The film avoids loud drama and keeps things soft. That works in parts because it feels real.
Just when 'Shiva' and 'Sadhana' start to settle, 'Sahitya' enters the story. She is 'Shiva's old love from college days. An accident and memory loss bring her back into his life. 'Shiva,' 'Sadhana,' and 'Mani' shift to Ooty and stay with 'Sahitya.' This is where the film moves into familiar love-triangle space.
Director Kishore Kumar keeps the tone light and sincere. He does not go for big fights or over-the-top scenes. The film focuses on quiet moments instead of grand gestures. Rajesh Murugesan’s music adds warmth to these moments. The songs and background score stay with you. Mukes’ camera work is another big plus. Jaipur with Hawa Mahal and Ajmer Fort, and later Ooty with its hills, look beautiful. The two cities almost feel like part of the story. Editor Barath Vikraman also keeps the film under two hours, so it never drags too much.
'Shiva,' played by Sananth, is the strongest part. He shows hurt and confusion mostly through his face, not just words. It feels honest. 'Mani,' played by WhatsApp Mani, gives comic relief at the right time and keeps the mood light. The film also tries to stay away from unnecessary commercial bits, which makes it a comfortable watch for people who like simple romances.
The main issue is that the characters are not explored deeply enough. We get the idea of an old flame and a new love, but we don’t get to know 'Shiva' and 'Sahitya' well in the past. Their college days are shown in montages, but those scenes do not give us enough to feel the weight of that relationship. Because of that, when 'Sahitya' comes back, the conflict does not hit as hard as one would expect.
'Sadhana' also gets less to do. She moves from being warm and friendly to suddenly feeling jealous and upset with 'Sahitya.' The shift comes too fast and does not feel earned. Emaya T makes a confident debut but has limited range to show. 'Sahitya,' played by Madonna Sebastian, has screen presence, but the writing gives her very little space. She ends up feeling more like a plot device than a full person.
The film picks a good idea of moving on from the past and also facing it, but spreads it too thin. It tells us about love and second chances, but does not dig into why these people hurt, what they want, or how they grow. A few emotional scenes could have had more impact if the screenplay had given them more time and depth.
Still, Heartin does not fail. It has sincerity. It wants to be a clean, feel-good drama without melodrama. The visuals are pretty, the music is soothing, and Sananth holds the film together. For viewers who enjoy soft romantic dramas with beautiful locations, it will feel pleasant.
But a romance needs more than a nice setting and a simple plot. It needs characters whose feelings stay with us. Here, the joys and heartbreaks do not linger. The film’s heart is in the right place, but it needed stronger writing and deeper performances from the female leads to really connect.
In the end, Heartin is a decent attempt. It is easy to watch, it looks good, and it means well. It just needed more life in its people for us to truly care.
