The actress passed away on August 16, 2026, at the age of 36. She was seen in Nashville when promoting her memoir titled, This Is Me: A Reckoning. Reports suggest that the actress tried to consume alcohol and industrial-grade nitrous oxide, known as "whippets," which was delivered to her hotel room.
A report by Page Six stated that Hayden Panettiere looked to be in the throes of addiction. This was three months before she was trying to reset her life. The actress was in Nashville when this alleged incident took place. Sources close to her stated that Hayden was trying to seek out alcohol and whippets. She was denied nitrous oxide, which she wanted to take huff in her room. The insider mentioned:
"Security at the hotel, located in downtown Nashville, allegedly stopped a delivery service order to her hotel room, which was several industrial-grade nitrous oxide cans that she was planning on huffing."
Another source close to the publication revealed that Hayden was waiting desperately to consume booze and whippets. She was not at all happy that the first delivery was instantly stopped. However, Hayden Panettiere's representative and friend, Kasey Kitchen stated that the incident was completely false. She revealed that Hayden had been in Nashville for a short time and had mostly been sleeping. Her private security was with her. Another insider close to the actress speaking about the incident stated:
"She had alcohol and whippets delivered. They wouldn’t allow it up to her room. She was in Nashville for a short amount of time and slept for most of it. She also had private security with her. Kitchen was by her side because the two had struck up a genuine friendship, separate from Kitchen representing her as her publicist. Kitchen was someone Hayden could trust. It seemed that she really felt wronged by so many people, and with that she was focused on resetting her life."
Hayden Panettiere earlier had addressed her addictions and stated that she consumed "happy pills" at the age of 16. She revealed why she went to get treatment back in 2020 and mentioned how her addictions destroyed her. The Scream franchise actress revealed that when she reached the point of looking in the mirror and seeing her eyes turn yellow, she could no longer recognize her body. So, Hayden was on a journey of self-work.
Hayden Panettiere stated that she went into the doctor’s office and got a blood test. She was told that if she did not stop, then the actress would have to get a liver transplant. Hayden was told at the age of 30 by the doctors that she may not live to see 35 if she did not stop her addictions.
Hayden Panettiere knew that she could not do this to herself and wanted to live for the sake of her child. However, on August 16, 2026, the actress lost her battle with addiction. She passed away reportedly due to a drug overdose and was found unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.
Hayden Panettiere passed away in Greenville, South Carolina, and at the time of her demise, her on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, was present. He was reportedly there during her final hours with his brother, Zach. Hayden was found in an unresponsive state in a chair while her boyfriend, Brian was asleep in the next room.
