In her memoir, Hayden Panettiere revealed additional details about a shocking incident that took place during a trip when she was 18.
Hayden Panettiere is hogging the limelight for her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning. For the unversed, Hayden’s memoir was published today, on May 19, 2026. Earlier, this month, in May 2026, the Heroes star opened up about a disturbing moment when she was 18. In the podcast, Hayden shared details about a close friend who had put her in bed with an undressed and very famous man. Now, the Heroes actress revealed fresh details about the following.
Earlier, in May 2026, Hayden sat for a candid conversation with Jay Shetty on his podcast, On Purpose. During the conversation, the Heroes fame recalled being placed into bed beside an 'undressed,' 'very famous' man aboard a yacht by a friend she deeply trusted. In her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, she has provided additional insight into the experience in a chapter titled 'Trust.' According to Hayden, the traumatic incident occurred during a trip to the South of France. She described the yacht trip as a 'super yacht' filled with celebrities, parties and nonstop champagne.
Back then, Hayden was travelling with a woman whom she considered one of her closest friends. She recounted spending days enjoying life aboard the yacht, including swimming in the Mediterranean, dancing until sunrise and mingling with famous guests. However, everything turned dark at the end of the trip. It was Hayden’s female friend who approached her during dinner and asked her to come downstairs to meet someone. After walking through a narrow hallway and into a private cabin, Hayden discovered a 'famous thirtysomething British singer-songwriter' shirtless in bed under sheets.
In her memoir, Hayden mentioned that her female friend wanted her to get into bed with that famous man. For a brief moment, the Heroes fame was in shock. But after mentally disconnecting from the situation, she told the man that she was leaving the room and nothing was happening between them. Hayden also wrote about how she felt betrayed by her friend, who literally pampered her. She wrote:
"'Oh my God,' I thought. 'Is he naked under there?' She said, 'I want you to get in bed with him.' My body no longer felt like my own. As soon as the door clicked close, my survival instinct kicked in. I told him, 'Look ... I don't know what she said to you, but this is not going to happen.' I felt like I’d been kicked in the face. She’d confided in me, pampered me and treated me like her best friend — then turned around and treated me like a call girl."
During the podcast, On Purpose, Hayden opened up about her emotional turmoil when her female friend, whom she considered her confidante, told her to perform a sexual act with an older man. She recalled being placed in bed when she was just 18 while aboard a boat. Hayden mentioned that although she believed that she was mature at the time, she now recognised how vulnerable she was. She was quoted as saying:
"You write about a moment in your career where a friend of yours takes you onto a boat. You’re led to a room which has an older man in it, and then basically told to perform sexual acts. The fact that I was 18, even though I’d lived such a huge life, and I thought I was oh so mature at 18 … scientifically, your frontal lobes don’t develop until we’re what, 25, 26? So even though I felt like I could make healthy decisions, safe decisions, I wasn’t capable of being fully aware of what was going on around me."
