Amid HBO releasing the trailer for the Harry Potter TV series, a look back at the time when Daniel Radcliffe talked about his feelings over the reboot!
HBO recently dropped the trailer for Harry Potter. The TV series was announced a year ago, and since then, the excitement about it has been up. It was recently revealed that the Harry Potter TV series will air from Christmas 2026, and unlike the movie series, each book of Harry Potter will be covered in each season, totalling 8 seasons.
With the trailer dropping, the Potterheads remained in awe as it rightfully hit the nostalgic core among the loyal fanbase of Harry Potter. While fans are in awe, some aren't able to take it lightly, given the fact that they believe no one can replace the OG cast by any means. With people missing the OG cast, let's look back at the time when Daniel Radcliffe shared his feelings about witnessing a reboot happening.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Daniel Radcliffe revealed that he had discussed the upcoming TV series with his co-stars, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. He mentioned that it's surreal to see people starting off on that journey after all these years. He also shared that while the three of them didn't have an extensive discussion about the series, their emotions were aligned when it came to the project.
The OG 'Harry' mentioned that it's just that kind of feeling when they don't have to speak much to express their feelings because they already know what they are actually feeling. He also shared his joy, stating that it's a kind of feeling that, with the photos of the kids, all of them just want to grab the new trio and hug them, and that is the kind of impulse that they have been feeling. Daniel could be quoted as saying:
"We haven’t had a ton of communication about the show specifically. It’s one of those where I think we all just know how the others feel, because we’re also feeling it. You just see the pictures of these kids, and you just want to grab them and hug them. That’s the impulse that I think that we, mainly, all have."
In the HBO series, 'Harry Potter's role will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, while Arabella Stanton will be seen as the new 'Hermione Granger', and Alastair Stout will play the role of 'Ron Weasley'. There's no doubt that the pressure is extreme on the trio, given the bar that had already been set by the OG cast of the film series. Daniel not only supported Dominic but also sent him a letter.
The new 'Harry Potter' revealed the same and called it 'insane' to have the support of Daniel, and it made him feel that he was going 'mad'. The HBO series is slated to be released during Christmas this year, and, reportedly, the entire project has a budget of USD 4.2 billion, with the three leads reportedly getting USD 1 million per season to start, ending at USD 10-20 million per season.
Speaking to PEOPLE, on the other hand, Daniel Radcliffe said that seeing these new actors gave him perspective on his tenure. He said that when someone does something at just 10-11, they don't really realise, but when they meet someone doing the same thing at such an age, when they are old, it's something simply 'crazy'. As per Radcliffe:
"When you’re 11, and you’re doing something, you’re like, ‘Of course I’m old enough to do this — I’m the oldest I’ve ever been,'”. But now when I meet 11-year-olds, I am like, ‘Whoa, that seems nuts.’ It puts into perspective. Honestly, it makes me admire – and I do tell them this, but my parents — more than I was capable of doing at the time. Just going like, ‘Wow, you got me through something crazy, and you did it with a huge amount of humor,’ yeah, it’s a big task.”
