Cher said that it never made her feel how rough her life and career would be, but she never sat with self-pity and was either an Oscar winner or a loser. She further asked people to live the life, while adding that if things that are supposed to have happened didn't happen, they would come soon. Cher said:
"But it didn’t occur to me how rough my career was going to be and my life was going to be. And I’m not saying, ‘Oh, poor me,’ but whatever. I was either a loser or winning an Oscar. I’m sure a lot of you in the audience know what I’m talking about. Never give up on your dream, no matter what happens. Live it, be it, and if it’s not happening now, it will happen soon. So that’s all I have to say. Thank you."
Well, after Cher's acceptance speech, she said that she's supposed to walk off. However, Cher was to announce the nominees for the Record of the Year. The host was seen nervously calling her again on the stage to announce the nominees for the category of Record of the Year, and someone from backstage was also trying to ask her to stay on the stage.
Cher managed the situation by laughing, but it was not the only slip-up that happened to her on the stage. There was also an awkward moment when Cher was seemingly waiting for the teleperformer to tell her the name of the winner, leading upto awkward pause before she opened the envelope. She then made another blunder by announcing that Luther Vandross won the Grammy for the Record of the Year.
Well, Luther Vandross died 20 years ago, and rapper Kendrick Lamar and singer SZA were the winners, who grabbed a Grammy for their song, Luther. Cher further corrected herself and said, 'No! Kendrick Lamer', as the rapper and SZA were seen hesitantly walking towards the stage. With all the blunders around, the host Trevor Noah joked that he loves live television. While receiving the award, Lamer said:
"This is what music is about. Luther Vandross. This is special for me. I gotta take my time. It’s one of my favorite artists of all-time. They granted us the privilege to do our version of it. When we got that clearance, I promise you, we damn near all dropped a tear."
