God of War, a popular game series, is being adapted into a show, scheduled to premiere soon on Amazon Prime Video. The series was announced in 2022 and has undergone a few changes, including some showrunners leaving the project midway through. For the unversed, God of War was supposed to be made as a film a long time ago, in 2005. A script was reportedly prepared for the movie. However, the film never entered development. Although director Steven S. DeKnight expressed his interest in directing the movie after having discussions with Sony Pictures, the production company denied its involvement in a film adaptation in 2021.

The upcoming Amazon Prime Video show has already finalized the actors who will play the lead roles. As per a new update, the first look at two characters has also been revealed. According to Variety, the show has already entered production in Vancouver, and fans of the game franchise are eagerly waiting to see whether the series will live up to the hype generated before its premiere. First look at 'Kratos' and 'Atreus' from the God of War series revealed

The first look at two important characters from God of War was recently revealed. It has increased excitement and curiosity among the viewers to watch the show. As per Variety, a new image has revealed the look of 'Kratos,' who is being played by Ryan Hurst, along with his son, 'Atreus,' portrayed by Callum Vinson. The basic storyline of the series will be taken from the two recently released games of the franchise. The latest games focus on 'Kratos,' who has been raising his son and also fighting the gods of the Norse pantheon.

God of War is yet to finalize an official release date

As mentioned, God of War is still in production. The casting process started in January 2026, and considering the scale of the project, the wait might be longer than expected. The show was originally announced in 2022, with the president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, Katherine Pope, saying that they were proud and excited to collaborate with Amazon Studios and their partners at PlayStation Productions to bring an adaptation of the famous game.

The writing process for the series started in January 2024. However, showrunner Rafe Judkins, along with writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, left the show in October 2024 after Sony and Amazon opted to take a new creative direction. Ronald D. Moore later took over as the showrunner and writer of the new show. He even serves as an executive producer along with Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, and many others.

'Kratos' and his son are going to be the main focus of the God of War series

The first look at 'Kratos' and 'Atreus' has already been revealed. Notably, the main storyline of the show will also focus on their journey to spread the ashes of 'Faye,' the wife of 'Kratos' and the mother of 'Atreus.' In between all these, 'Kratos' will guide his son on how to become a better God, and a similar thing will be done by 'Atreus,' teaching his father how to be a good human. According to Games Radar, the show will adapt the events featured in the God of War game that was released back in 2018.

The lead characters of God of War, 'Kratos' and 'Atreus,' are being played by Ryan Hurst and Callum Vinson. Moreover, Teresa Palmer has been finalised to appear as 'Sif,' followed by Max Parker playing 'Heimdall.' There is also 'Thor' among the main characters, who will be portrayed by Olafur Darri Olafsson. Mandy Patinkin has been cast as 'Odin,' alongside Alastair Duncan playing 'Mimir.' 'Brok' will be played by Danny Woodburn. Furthermore, Jeff Gulka and Ek Skrein have been cast as 'Sindri' and 'Baldur.'
