During every outing, the duo looked happily married, but when they announced their divorce on October 28, 2022, their fans were shocked.
Before ending their 13-year marriage, Gisele Bundchen tried everything to mend it. According to a new book, Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, author Lars Anderson wrote that Gisele gave Tom a ‘serious’ handwritten letter after the 2018 Super Bowl and revealed that their marriage wasn’t working out.
Anderson described the couple’s crumbling marriage and said Gisele wanted Brady to be present when he was home. Elaborating on how she wished to have some time for herself, Anderson elaborated:
“She needed more of him, more of his time, more of his attention, more of his heart. Not responding to text messages on his constantly buzzing cell phone or replaying a game in his mind. She needed more help with the kids. She needed the chance to sleep in just a few days a week. She needed more time for her own career.”
According to Anderson, Brady’s desire to keep playing football strained his marriage to Gisele. She allegedly pushed him to retire since the 2017 Super Bowl, when the New England Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons. When the Patriots won, Gisele hoped Tom would retire.
She rushed to the field to congratulate him and allegedly said, “Would now be the perfect time to retire?” To her surprise, his response was, “Too bad, babe. I’m having too much fun right now.” Tom’s former teammate told Anderson that Gisele was a bigger international star than her husband, but she was reduced to being just Tom’s wife and the mother of his children. Speaking about the same, the teammate alleged:
“She has a lot of pride, too. And, I mean, how many times did you see Tom supporting her career? There clearly were imbalances there.”
For Tom, everything revolved around his game, and his lifestyle did, too. According to his teammate, Tom followed a schedule and never changed it. He would get up at the crack of dawn, think about his game all day, and go to bed by nine. The whole schedule he followed was tiresome for Gisele, who felt left out.
Managing everything on her own was becoming too much, and Gisele was tired of living in her husband’s shadow. According to Anderson, Brady and Bundchen went to couple's counseling, but nothing worked. An insider close to Brady told Anderson that after trying everything, Gisele, who is into astrology, looked into the stars and told Tom, ‘We’re not compatible’.
After her split from Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen tied the knot with Joaquim Valente in an intimate wedding in December 2025. The ceremony was held in Florida. The couple kept the wedding a private affair for three months. In January 2025, they welcomed their first child together.
