Donald Trump revealed that Giorgia Meloni begged him for a photo during the Group of Seven Summit. While he wanted to skip it, he felt sorry for Giorgia. A report by L'Aria Che Tira on La7 revealed that Donald Trump made a controversial statement during his meeting with Giorgia Meloni during the G7 Summit. Trump made a shocking statement about the Italian prime minister. He reportedly stated that Giorgia Meloni had begged him for a photo. However, he didn't want to take it forward, but he felt pity for her. The statement has left a deep impact on the two leaders' relationship just days after the summit, as they were seen sitting side by side. Donald Trump even claimed that Meloni was only happy that he talked to her, while he didn't had to talk to her. He said:
"She begged me to take a photo with her. She wanted a photo with me so badly — I could have skipped it, but I felt sorry for her. She’s probably happy I talked to her. I didn’t have to talk to her."
The statement has left Giorgia Meloni totally unimpressed. In strong words, Giorgia gave a reply to President Trump's statement. She called it a totally fabricated claim. She was left stunned by the statement and claimed that it might impact the international relations they share. She also pointed out how he has been treating his Western allies with less respect. Giorgia stated that neither she nor Italy begs. Meloni stated that she doesn't know why Donald Trump behaves in such a way. She said in the video posted on X:
"Donald Trump’s statements are completely fabricated. I’m frankly shocked. I don’t know why the president of the United States behaves this way towards his own allies, and it’s not the first time it’s happened."
She captioned it as "Neither I nor Italy ever beg." Giorgia also highlighted the April interaction of Trump, where he criticised her refusal to back the US-Israeli war against Iran, at that time she chose not to react and just flow with the situation. Soon, netizens flooded the comments section with their opinion. One user wrote, "Strong words full of dignity. Respect and pride are felt in every word."
Another one commented, "Unhinged. Further reinforcing why women shouldn't be given this much power. Super cringy." A third user wrote, "The truth is that political colour doesn't matter; we're in the age of doing, and unfortunately, Italian politics has never moved beyond the era of empty talk. Trump negotiates, stirs things up, does what he says—all the exact opposite of Prime Minister Meloni; since he has no style and doesn't mince words, he treats her roughly."
Another pointed, "President, but you still really haven't understood Trump? This man has done more damage than a hailstorm, both in his own country and abroad. Support and backing to you, President—forget about Trump; this man is unstable and dangerous." Amidst this verbal spat, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani cancelled his trip to the United States. He was scheduled to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Tajani also expressed his disgust at Trump's statement and called it offensive.
