Forbidden Fruits has arrived in theatres on March 27, 2026. The comedy horror movie is adapted from a 2019 stage play, Of the woman came the beginning of sin, and through her we all die. The play was written by Lily Houghton, who is also the co-writer of the film’s screenplay with Meredith Alloway, the director of the movie. The main storyline focuses on 'Apple,' who is working at Free Eden and is operating a cult in the mall’s basement. However, a recruit named 'Pumpkin' brings complications for 'Apple' and her group members, 'Cherry' and 'Fig.'
Forbidden Fruits features Lili Reinhart playing the lead as 'Apple.' Furthermore, 'Pumpkin' is portrayed by Lola Tung alongside Victoria Pedretti as 'Cherry' and Alexandra Shipp as 'Fig.' With a mix of two different themes, the movie has left a positive impression on critics. Keep reading to know what happens at the end of the film!
The basic premise of Forbidden Fruits revolves around 'Apple,' the cult, and 'Apple's' group members, 'Cherry' and 'Fig.' The trio shares a close bond, but the entire group is hiding a secret, adhering to specific rules about their outfits and appearances in front of others, and establishing relationships with outsiders. The film creates a distinct atmosphere, which is where 'Pumpkin' enters the scene, joining the mall.
'Pumpkin' finds everything normal when she arrives, as she becomes a part of the group. However, she later discovers that everything that she is witnessing about the group might not be true. 'Pumpkin' attempts to find answers to her questions and finds that the trio might be dangerous as they are not ready to show mercy to those who cross their limits.
While 'Pumpkin' finds the truth of the trio, the conflict within the group starts at the same time. 'Pumpkin' steps back for some time and is supported by a girl named 'Fig,' who always doubted the intentions of the group. 'Cherry' also starts feeling uncomfortable, but cannot let go of her loyalty to 'Apple.' Things start getting intense here since 'Apple' ensures to have control over everything that she has created so far. The group also does not stay united, and the rituals become extreme, with 'Pumpkin' trying to stop herself. Everyone who stays around 'Apple' starts facing severe consequences due to the latter’s desire to have control.
'Apple’s' fate at the end of the film can be easily predicted. However, the conclusion does not provide a clear picture of who was wrong for all this time. All the characters have faced something in their lives. While 'Pumpkin' leaves everything behind, she shows that her journey has been all about understanding that choice matters in empowerment. On the other hand, 'Apple' is a character who aims to make a world where everything is decided by women. But she also tries to have the same control that she has been attempting to avoid for all this time.
Although the ending of Forbidden Fruits has left the possibilities of a sequel, the makers have not confirmed anything from their side so far. For the unversed, the film is produced by Diablo Cody. The movie additionally features Emma Chamberlain and Gabrielle Union among the cast members, playing the roles of 'Pickle' and 'Shaon.'
