In a shocking turn of events, acclaimed director-cum-actor-cum-singer, Farhan Akhtar has separated from his wife of 16 years, Adhuna Akhtar Bhabani, who is also a celebrated hair stylist. The couple dated each other for three years before finally walking down the aisle in the year 2000.

They have two daughters, Shakya and Akira.

In fact, Farhan Akhtar recently issued a joint statement with his soon-to-be ex-wife Adhuna about their separation, hence making the news official. The couple is giving the reason of their separation as ‘growing apart over the years'. Take a look:

"This is to announce that we, Adhuna and Farhan, have mutually and amicably decided to separate. Our children remain our priority and it is immensely important to us, as responsible parents, that they be protected from unwarranted speculation and public glare. We sincerely request that we are given the privacy that is required at this time to move forward in a dignified manner."

The couple’s priority at this time remains their children and they are doing their best to protect them from all the media speculation.

Farhan’s solo appearances at his latest release, Wazir’s screening as well as the launch of acclaimed photographer, Daboo Ratnani’s calendar launch stood witness to the claim that all was not well between the Akhtars.

However, if the gossip vine is to be believed, another factor that worked towards giving the final push to the Akhtar's deteriorating relationship was Farhan’s growing closeness with his new co-star, but no names were mentioned.
