Mindy Cohn, known for her work in 'Facts of Life', has recently revealed that her cancer is back after a long break from social media. Shares an emotional update with fans.
Melinda Heather Cohn, also known as Mindy Cohn, is an American actress and comedian, best known for her roles as 'Natalie Green' in the sitcom, The Facts of Life from 1979 to 1988 and for voicing 'Velma Dinkley' in the Scooby-Doo franchise from 2002 to 2015. However, lately, the actress has been in the headlines for her personal life. After her cancer had been in remission for years, the actress has shared the unfortunate news that her cancer has returned.
Mindy Cohen had been off social media for a while now. However, it was on Sunday, April 19 (ET), when she took to her Instagram account to share an update. Unfortunately, it was not something fans had been hoping to get. The actress shared a picture of herself from a hospital bed, giving a thumbs-up, with several IV lines and ports attached to her arms. The actress penned a short note alongside the picture, explaining why she was away and what had been going on.
Mindy Cohen revealed that she had been away from social media because she was fighting the cruel disease that is cancer. The actress took to her Instagram account to show that, despite the news, she has remained in high spirits as she fights the battle again. She expressed her gratitude towards the medical help she has received at Providence Saint John's Hospital. The note could be read as saying:
"I have been off social media for a while 'cuz I had to go kick cancer’s ass. I did so with the extraordinary help of Providence Saint John’s hospital staff, especially my nurses Finja, Patty and Courtney and my hero, the phenomenal oncology surgeon @antonbilchik …. thank you to my family, especially my cherished @tarakarsian, @johnwstewart, and @gregoryzarian, who have been my advocates and always on the ready to help me when it’s 'my turn'. Recouping for another couple of weeks and then ready for my next adventure. Onwards! F**K Cancer!"
While Mindy Cohn's post soon started grabbing everyone's attention, a question has been on everyone's mind. What type of cancer does the Fact of Life actress have? Well, Mindy didn't disclose the same in her post, and there haven't been any other comments from the actress or her representatives.
It was in 2017 that the actress first opened up about her battle with cancer. Mindy Cohn revealed that she was in remission from breast cancer after being diagnosed with the disease five years earlier in 2012. The actress at the time took the tough call to undergo a double mastectomy to fight the disease. In a conversation with PEOPLE, she explained how the surgery was followed by chemotherapy and radiation in what she said felt like a "siege".
At the time, Mindy Cohn revealed how she was an optimist. However, the news of her cancer metastasising left her waiting for the other shoe to drop. She revealed how the cancer kept spreading and how enraged she was by it. She was quoted as saying:
"I’ve always been an optimist. But the cancer metastasised. It kept spreading and coming back. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and then it would. And then I’d wait for another shoe to drop, and it would. I was frustrated and enraged. I couldn’t control any of this. I couldn’t fix it."
Team BollywoodShaadis extends our well-wishes to Mindy Cohen as she takes on another battle with cancer.
