Eric Swalwell Denies Sexual Assault Allegations, Says, 'My Focus Is To Be With My Wife And Children'

Eric Swalwell denied the allegations levied on him by a staffer and revealed that he has always protected women.

California Rep., Eric Swalwell is in hot water as the Democratic running for governor was recently accused of sexual assault and misconduct. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that a woman accused Swalwell of sexually assaulting her twice. She told the newspaper she did not go to the police because she was afraid she would not be believed.

Amid the assault allegations, Swalwell reacted to the accusations levied on him and vehemently denied all of them. Swalwell also stated that the attacks on him were because of his campaign’s momentum. Revealing how he has been protecting women, Swalwell said:

“These allegations are false and come on the eve of an election against the front-runner for governor. For nearly 20 years, I have served the public — as a prosecutor and a congressman and have always protected women. I will defend myself with the facts and where necessary bring legal action. My focus in the coming days is to be with my wife and children and defend our decades of service against these lies.”

What are the allegations against Eric Swalwell?

A San Francisco Chronicle recently reported details of Eric Swalwell’s growing instability within the political operation due to the resignation of several staff. The staff’s exit from his campaign is reportedly due to the sexual assault allegations made by several women. The report mentioned an unnamed woman who described her interactions with Swalwell and revealed being assaulted by him twice.

The woman stated that the assault happened in 2019 and 2024. The woman worked for Swalwell in 2019 when the first assault happened. In 2024, the assault happened after a charity gala. She told the newspaper that in both cases, she was too drunk to provide consent. She also revealed that she didn’t go to the police as she was afraid that no one would believe her. The Associated Press has not been able to independently verify her account and identity. Her lawyer declined to comment.

Eric Swalwell’s campaign chairman, Jimmy Gomez, resigns

As per the Chronicle, the woman received a cease-and-desist letter from Swalwell’s attorney. The attorney, Elias Debaie, confirmed he sent out at least one letter and called the allegations “baseless.” However, amid the accusations, Swalwell's campaign chairman, Jimmy Gomez, has resigned. He further called for Swalwell’s resignation and said:

“Today I learned shocking information about Eric Swalwell containing the ugliest and most serious accusations imaginable. The congressman should leave the race now so there can be full accountability without doubt, distraction, or delay.”

As per the Chronicle, there have been many Uncorroborated rumours about Swalwell behaving inappropriately with female staffers, and the rumours have been surfacing on social media. CNN also reported that an ex-staffer and three additional women accused Swalwell of making sexual advances and sending explicit photos and messages. At a Tuesday campaign event in Sacramento, he told reporters he’s never had a sexual relationship with a staff member or intern.
