She had to make the difficult decision after her husband, Abraham Williams, was diagnosed with a rare kind of bone cancer. Now that she has announced her resignation, several people are curious to learn more about her private life and her marriage to Abraham Williams.
Tulsi Gabbard has confirmed that she has resigned to fully support Abraham Williams as he battles an extremely rare form of bone cancer. Although the couple has kept their personal life private, she has often spoken openly about her emotional fertility journey. After many attempts, they decided not to have any children. Tulsi Gabbard and Abraham Williams have no children. But the couple had previously shared how they had undergone long, physically-difficult, and emotionally-draining infertility and IVF treatments.
According to the couple's past interviews and podcast appearances, Tulsi Gabbard had undergone multiple rounds of IVF during their marriage. Later, the process became more difficult for her and Abraham. In fact, during a 2024 appearance on Meghan McCain's podcast, she admitted that at one point, the multiple failed IVF attempts caused issues inside her marriage. In her words:
"As hard as this was for me, it was extremely hard for Abraham to watch this heartbreak over and over again."
After the failed attempts, Tulsi Gabbard paused the treatments during her 2020 Presidential campaign. At last, the couple decided to stop it forever. Although the couple did not have any kids, Tulsi has admitted that her husband has been her strongest support system. Especially during her military and political career, he has always been her anchor. For those unaware, the couple got married in April 2015 in a traditional wedding ceremony in Hawaii after dating for multiple years. In fact, their relationship has been mostly private.
Tulsi Gabbard and Abraham Williams' personal life has come into the spotlight after she suddenly announced her resignation from the role of Director of National Intelligence on May 22, 2026. According to reports, she shared the update privately with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. In her resignation, she mentioned that Abraham has been her support system, and now it is her turn. On the other hand, President Trump praised her work in the office and sent his best wishes to Abraham Williams. Meanwhile, Aaron Lukas will temporarily take over as the Acting Director of National Intelligence after she leaves the office. In Tulsi's words:
"My husband, Abraham, has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage- standing steadfast through my deployment to East Africa on a Joint Special Operations mission, multiple political campaigns, and now my service in this role."
Abraham Williams hails from Hawaii. He is a cinematographer, photographer, and video producer who has mostly stayed away from politics despite Tulsi's high-profile political career. He is of Maori and Samoan descent. Abraham first met Tulsi around 2012 when he was volunteering as a photographer and videographer during her political campaigning in Hawaii. Soon, they formed a bond over their mutual interests in surfing, nature, and outdoor activities. He has also made documentaries, commercials, music videos, and TV productions.
