With the buzz surrounding 'Bridgerton' star, Phoebe Dynevor's new film, 'Thrash,' here's what we know about its possible sequel.
Ever since Thrash, the American survival thriller, dropped on April 10, 2026, it has been grabbing attention for its gripping storyline. Available on the OTT giant, Netflix, the film is directed by Tommy Wirkola and stars Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak, Alyla Browne, and Djimon Hounsou. Thrash essentially revolves around Phoebe's character, a pregnant woman named ‘Lisa.’ Well, with the buzz surrounding the movie, many have started to wonder if the ending of Thrash sets up for a possible sequel.
The story of Thrash takes place in a small coastal town called Annieville in South Carolina. Unfortunately, the town is struck by a Category 5 hurricane, something which leaves their entire community devastated. As if the rising waters weren't enough, it also brought in multiple bull sharks who were looking for their next meal. Not surprisingly, the flooded town becomes the ideal hunting ground for these sharks, with the townspeople desperately fighting for their survival in the midst of it all.
While Thrash mainly follows a pregnant ‘Lisa,’ we also get to see the agoraphobic ‘Dakota’ trying to survive alongside her. Meanwhile, ‘Dakota’s’ uncle, who is a shark expert, tries to rescue both of them. Other notable characters in the film are the three foster siblings of the ‘Olson’ family, ‘Ron’, ‘Dee’, and ‘Will’, who do their best to survive in the shark-infested weather within their home.
We see ‘Lisa’ and all the other characters put through impossible situations throughout the movie. These scenarios give audiences a glimpse into their wits and survival instincts as several blood-hungry bull sharks surround them. Though there aren't any major deaths at the end of Thrash, we do see ‘Mr. Olson's’ passing away. Now, ‘Dakota’s’ uncle is successful in saving her and ‘Lisa,’ and also in keeping ‘Lisa’s’ baby safe. Coming to the ‘Olson' siblings, they manage to escape after finding explosives in the basement and using them to kill several sharks.
However, Thrash adds an unexpected twist in the end with the arrival of a great white shark named ‘Nellie.’ Instead of posing a threat to the humans, she is actually the enemy of the other bull sharks. For those unaware, when it comes to predator hierarchy, great whites are the real apex predators and are fully capable of hunting down bull sharks. The same happens in the movie, especially with ‘Nellie’ being pregnant and hungry.
Towards the end of Thrash, we get to see harbour master, ‘Greg Wilson', looking at his computer. Interestingly, he sees not only the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Henry but the arrival of a new Category 5 hurricane similar to the previous one. The hurricane is headed straight to the Atlantic coast. Just when the characters thought the sirens had gone off for good, they could be heard blaring louder than ever. Named Jon, this new C5 hurricane might give creators the perfect opportunity to set up a sequel to Trash.
It is worth noting that as of now, there has been no official news regarding a Thrash movie sequel. Though in an interview with The Discourse podcast for The Playlist, the film's producer, Adam McKay, did not dismiss the idea of a sequel entirely. He said that there are plenty of extreme weather events these days to justify there being a Thrash 2. In his words:
“The idea of telling the story of nature out of balance…You could do an endless [amount of sequels].”
