The entire Bengali entertainment industry is currently in shock, after the much-loved actor, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee tragically passed away on March 29, 2026. If reports are to be believed, the actor was shooting for the serial, Bhole Baba Par Karega, when he unexpectedly passed away. According to his co-stars, the actor had jumped into water after the pack-up; but, when he didn’t come out, crew members pulled him out and took him to hospital. However, Rahul was declared dead.
His tragic death has not only shocked his friends and family but also the fans. It is worth mentioning that in his personal life, Rahul was married to Bengali actress, Priyanka Sarkar. However, the two had filed for divorce, only to reconcile later for the sake of their son, Sohoj. Rahul’s sudden death has brought attention to the couple’s personal life. Talking about Priyanka and Rahul’s relationship, the two reportedly met during the shoot of their film, Chirodini Tumi Je Amar. Slowly and gradually their on-screen chemistry turned into real-life romance. Reportedly, late actor, Rahul was the first one to confess his feelings to the actress; however, the actress didn't accept it instantly. In 2010, the couple got married. Years later, when the two filed for a divorce, Priyanka had a conversation with The Times Of India, during which she revealed that their marriage was not peaceful. She also described her decision as 'hasty' and 'immature'.
If reports are to be believed, when Priyanka and Rahul Banerjee were going through a difficult phase in their marriage, the Bengali actress was spotted with a photographer, Tathagata Ghosh. Reportedly, they even shared photos on their social media platforms. It is worth noting that one of their 'Friendship Day' posts grabbed a lot of attention. This led to dating speculations. In 2018, when Priyanka sat for a conversation with TOI, she slammed all the rumours and shared:
"First of all, Tathagata is my best friend. We are seen together, so people are talking about it as media talks about our diet, dresses and so on. Just a few days back, I heard a director's name being linked with me. So the names keep changing, which also means that I am being talked about! A single woman doesn't always need a man. I am at peace with my work and my son, and I do have a good set of friends."
During the same conversation with TOI, Priyanka Sarkar also spoke about her and Rahul’s son, Sohoj. When she asked if there is any awkwardness with Rahul, she stated that there is nothing like that because she is only concerned about the correct upbringing of Sohoj. Talking about Rahul’s contribution in co-parenting, the actress shared:
"I am only concerned about Sohoj's upbringing, his future and his studies. Till date, I have taken all of Sohoj's responsibilities financial and others. Other than coming to my house and playing with him, Rahul has not taken any responsibility of a father until now. I don't want any alimony from him but I have asked him what he can do to secure Sohoj's future financially as it is getting difficult for me now."
Rahul Banerjee tragically passed away on March 29, 2026, due to drowning in Talsari, Digha. Even though he was rushed to Digha Hospital, he couldn't be saved unfortunately. Soon after this tragic demise, Rahul's co-star, Diganta Bagchi came forward and revealed the truth about his death. According to a report by Anand Bazaar, Diganta mentioned:
"Either he didn't know how to swim, or he was somehow stuck. Suddenly, the technicians shouted 'Rahul is drowning'. When he was rescued, he was still alive. But he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital."
