Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleRob Reiner and Michele Reiner's dual murder case had shocked Hollywood. But the more shocking update was finding out that, reportedly, their son, Nick was responsible for it. As fans have been following the case, a new development has emerged. The latest court documents reveal that Rob and Michele's other kids, Jake Reiner and Romy Reiner, testified before the grand jury. Later, it indicted their brother Nick in connection with his parents' death. However, many exact details of the testimony are still under wraps.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Jake and Romy appeared before the grand jury that eventually indicted their brother, Nick. However, there is no update about the exact information they gave during the testimony.
The update surfaced after an unsealed indictment revealed the allegations against Nick. He had pleaded not guilty on August 12, 2026, to two counts of murder. It included special circumstance allegations about multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait.
Going by the last allegations, it seemed that prosecutors believed that Nick planned to kill his parents in advance. If he gets convicted in the case, then he may face life in prison without a chance for parole. Otherwise, he might even get the death penalty. Meanwhile, a pre-trial hearing is set for September 15, 2026.
The case started when Nick Reiner was arrested after a few hours of his parents' death. Since then, he has stayed in the custody of the authorities. At present, they have held him in the Los Angeles Twin Towers Correctional Facility until his trial.
Initially, in 2026, he had pleaded not guilty to the original first-degree murder charges filed against him. However, prosecutors obtained a grand jury indictment that included the special-circumstances allegations. So, it increased the seriousness of charges in the case.
Needless to say, the tragedy has deeply affected the Reiner family. A few days after the murder of their parents, Jake and Romy shared a statement about their loss. However, he did not mention about Nick at that time, Jake later addressed it in a personal essay. He wrote that his brother reportedly struggled with schizophrenia and substance abuse. In his words:
"We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable. It's almost too impossible to process."
Nick is also involved in a separate legal case. It is about a conflict over access to money from a family trust. Court filings show that he has asked for access to nearly USD 1.5 million from his family trust fund. Nick wanted the money to pay his legal expenses and other costs. But the trustees opposed it due to something called California's "slayer statute."
For those unaware, the regulation prevents a person who intentionally killed another person from getting anything from their estate. But Nick's attorney claims that it does not apply to him. He argued that Nick has not been convicted of any crime, so he should get the money.
Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner died at their Los Angeles home. They were found dead by their daughter in December 2025. Later, the official report stated that they both died from multiple sharp-force injuries.
The couple, who were in their 70s, had tied the knot in 1980. Since then, they have stayed together for decades, becoming one of the most enduring couples in Hollywood. When the authorities started an investigation, they soon took Nick into custody. Prosecutors allege that he had planned the whole killing while they were still alive. However, Nick has strongly denied the same.
